About Receiver 2
Receiver 2 is a single‑player action‑simulation that focuses on realistic firearm operation. Every sidearm is modeled down to each spring, pin and safety, letting players load, unload and clear malfunctions as they would with real weapons. Enemies react to a physically‑based damage system where a single accurate shot can be lethal, and ballistics include ricochets, penetration and bullet drop.
The game presents a surreal atmosphere where the player must resist the mysterious Threat and the “Mindkill”. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux with mouse‑and‑keyboard controls, and includes Steam achievements, trading cards, captions and Family Sharing.
01 / THE GUIDE
Firearm Mechanics
Receiver 2 models each sidearm down to every moving part, such as springs and pins, based on manufacturer schematics. Players must manipulate these components to load, unload, engage safety mechanisms and clear malfunctions.
The simulation extends to all sidearms available, offering a broader catalog than the original game. This depth encourages learning the exact operation of each gun rather than abstract shooting.
- Observe the placement of springs and pins before attempting to load; it mirrors real‑world handling.
- Compare the safety mechanisms of different models to notice subtle procedural differences.

Ballistic Simulation
Bullet behavior follows data from shooting‑incident reconstruction textbooks, including ricochets, penetration and bullet drop. This means shots travel realistically through the environment and can be stopped by appropriate cover.
Because damage is physically based, a single well‑placed shot can eliminate an enemy, removing the need for health pools or loot crates.
- Use environmental cover to test how bullets ricochet off surfaces.
- Aim for vital zones to maximize the effect of the single‑shot lethality.

Enemy Interaction
Enemies are governed by physically‑based damage models; they do not have health bars or regenerative mechanics. The Threat attacks with “dream killdrones” after the Mindkill event, though the exact nature of these attacks is left ambiguous.
There are no traditional NPC dialogues or loot drops; the focus remains on precise shooting and firearm handling.
- Treat each encounter as a test of accuracy rather than endurance.
- Observe how shot placement affects enemy destruction.

The Mindkill Concept
The Mindkill represents a narrative threshold that the player must resist. It is described as a knowledge barrier that only an “Awakened” Receiver can comprehend.
While the game does not explain the Mindkill in detail, it frames the overall challenge as a mental as well as mechanical test.
- Reflect on how the game's tension builds around the Mindkill theme.
- Consider the Mindkill as a metaphor for mastering firearm knowledge.
