About Quanero VR
Quanero VR is a free experimental virtual‑reality experience built with Unreal Engine 4 for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Players investigate a violent incident in a futuristic bar by moving forward, backward, slowing, or pausing time to locate the cause of an explosive chain reaction.
Developed by Laserboys3000 as a university bachelor project, the title emphasizes immersive storytelling. You can choose your own viewpoint and position in VR, while professional motion‑capture actors provide realistic body and facial performances.

Time Manipulation
The core mechanic lets you advance, reverse, halt, or slow time. This effect applies to every perspective inside the virtual room, letting you examine events from any angle.
By shifting time you can pinpoint the exact moment that triggered the chain reaction leading to the final explosion, creating a non‑linear investigative flow.
- Pause at moments that feel significant to compare visual details.
- Rewind after a slow‑motion view to see if hidden clues emerge.

Environment Setting
The experience places you inside a futuristic bar where a brawl and a drug deal unfold. The setting is fully rendered in VR, allowing you to look around the space from any position.
The bar environment culminates in a spectacular explosion, with debris raining down, reinforcing the narrative focus on a violent chain reaction.
- Survey the entire bar before manipulating time to locate key visual cues.
- Observe how the explosion changes when viewed from different angles.

Narrative Branching
Manipulating time reveals branch points in the story, each unlocking new fragments that add context to the incident. These branches are discovered by exploring the scene at different temporal moments.
Unlocking branch points as you explore helps you understand the source of the devastating chain reaction that culminates in the explosion.
- Note the order of events after each time shift to track narrative changes.
- Compare outcomes from different branches to identify consistent clues.

VR Immersion
VR lets you choose your own viewpoint and position, redefining traditional directing and camerawork in a VR context.
Professional actors were digitized with a motion‑capture system, providing realistic body and facial expressions that enhance presence within the virtual bar.
- Clear a safe physical area to move comfortably while exploring.
- Maintain awareness of headset tracking during rapid time changes.

Development Background
Quanero was created by students from the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg’s MultiMediaArt and MultiMediaTechnology programs, using several 3D applications, Substance Painter, Designer, and motion capture.
The project was built specifically for HTC Vive, also runs on Oculus Rift, and is distributed as a free download on Windows.
