About Play Things

Play Things is a horror‑themed single‑player experience where you investigate a collection of dolls to decide which are harmless toys and which hide a dark curse. The game presents a series of tests that reveal unsettling details, and it includes jumpscares and dark themes that may be unsettling for some players.

Normal Mode offers a fixed roster of 19 dolls with long descriptions and four possible endings, taking roughly 1.5 hours to complete per ending. An Endless Mode is mentioned but not yet available, and the title runs on Windows.

01 / THE GUIDE

Normal Mode Structure

Normal Mode, also called Story Mode, always presents the same set of dolls. Each doll receives a long description and is specifically designed and written for the experience.

The mode contains 19 distinct dolls and provides four different endings depending on the outcomes of your investigations.

  • Compare doll descriptions early to spot recurring motifs.
  • Track which dolls trigger unusual events for later reference.

02 / THE GUIDE

Multiple Endings

The game offers four separate conclusions in Normal Mode, each reached by different investigative outcomes. The estimated playtime for a single ending is about one and a half hours.

Because the dolls and their narratives stay constant, players can experiment with different choices to uncover each ending without new content.

  • Save after key decisions to revisit alternate outcomes.
  • Note which tests lead to the most dramatic revelations.

Horror Elements

Play Things is explicitly labeled as a horror game, featuring jumpscares and dark thematic material that may be unsuitable for sensitive players.

During gameplay the program reads your PC’s name at some point, a detail that can be surprising when streamed or recorded.

  • Adjust lighting or volume if jumpscares become overwhelming.
  • Consider muting the name‑reading segment during live streams.

04 / THE GUIDE

Audio‑Visual Accessibility

The title includes Custom Volume Controls, Stereo Sound, and Camera Comfort options, allowing players to tailor audio levels and visual presentation.

A contrast control tag is also listed, indicating an option to modify on‑screen contrast for better visibility.

  • Use Custom Volume Controls to balance jumpscare sounds with background music.
  • Enable Camera Comfort if rapid camera movements cause discomfort.
