About Phobies

Phobies is a free‑to‑play collectible card game from the creators of Company of Heroes and Age of Empires: Castle Siege. Players summon fear‑themed cards called Phobies and battle on hex‑based boards against opponents worldwide.

The game offers over 180 unique Phobies, asynchronous PvP, a real‑time arena, practice and PvE challenge modes, and weekly or seasonal rewards that feed the Mount Ego leaderboards. A Discord community provides a place for tips and support.

01 / THE GUIDE

Collecting Phobies

Players can unlock more than 180 Phobies, each inspired by an irrational fear. Unlocking adds the card to the personal collection, and upgrading gives the card an added edge in battle.

The collection expands as new fears and abilities become available, encouraging continual play to broaden strategic options.

  • Focus upgrades on a small core group before expanding the roster.
  • Compare similar Phobies to see which upgrades best match your preferred tactics.

02 / THE GUIDE

Hex‑Based Tactical Gameplay

Battles occur on hexagonal tiles that represent hazardous environments. Positioning Phobies on these tiles influences the outcome of each turn.

Environmental features can be leveraged for advantage, making each board a distinct puzzle that rewards careful spatial planning.

  • Test different placements to observe how terrain affects abilities.
  • Watch opponent positioning to anticipate and counter moves.

Practice and Challenge Modes

A practice mode lets you test decks and strategies without pressure, providing a safe space to explore card synergies.

The PvE challenge mode presents puzzles and objectives that sharpen wits, offering a single‑player environment to refine tactics before competitive play.

  • Use practice mode to trial new Phobies before committing upgrades.
  • Treat challenge puzzles as opportunities to discover unconventional combos.

04 / THE GUIDE

Asynchronous PvP Battles

Players can duel friends or worldwide opponents in asynchronous PvP, allowing multiple turn‑based matches to run simultaneously at each player's own pace.

Turn‑based mechanics let you make decisions without needing to be online at the same moment, supporting flexible scheduling of battles.

  • Schedule duels with friends to maintain a steady flow of matches.
  • Balance your deck for both early‑game positioning and late‑game power.

05 / THE GUIDE

Arena Mode

Arena mode provides real‑time mayhem where players compete directly against each other, testing strategic superiority in a faster‑paced environment.

Matches occur in real time, requiring quick decisions and rapid adaptation.

  • Practice quick decision‑making in arena to avoid being outpaced.
  • Observe how real‑time positioning differs from asynchronous play.
