About Phasmophobia
Phasmophobia is an online co‑op horror for up to four players where each participant acts as a paranormal investigator. Teams enter haunted sites, use ghost‑hunting gear, and collect evidence while trying to avoid becoming haunted themselves.
The game features realistic graphics and sound, a minimal UI, over 20 ghost types, more than 10 locations, voice‑activated interactions, and a difficulty system that includes five preset levels and a custom mode.
01 / THE GUIDE
Co‑op Investigation
Four players join a single online session, each moving inside the haunted location with their own equipment. The shared objective is to locate and record paranormal evidence while monitoring each other's safety.
One teammate may remain in the support vehicle, using CCTV feeds and motion sensors to guide the others. This role provides real‑time information that can help the on‑site players avoid dangerous encounters.
- Assign a dedicated support player to watch the truck feed.
- Keep voice chat open so the support player can relay sensor alerts quickly.

Ghost Types
Phasmophobia lists more than 20 distinct ghost varieties, each described with its own traits, personality, and abilities. Identifying the correct type is required for earning the associated reward.
Ghosts listen to spoken words, so using voice commands through Ouija boards or spirit boxes can provoke responses that help narrow the ghost’s identity.
- Pay attention to unique audio cues that each ghost type may emit.
- Use the spirit box early to trigger spoken replies.

Ghost‑Hunting Equipment
Players can equip classic tools such as EMF Readers, Spirit Boxes, Thermometers, and Night Vision Cameras. Each device corresponds to a specific evidence category that must be recorded during a hunt.
Cursed possessions may appear during investigations; they grant information or abilities but reduce the holder’s sanity when activated.
- Carry at least one tool for each evidence type.
- Weigh the benefit of a cursed item against its sanity cost before using it.

Haunted Locations
The game offers over 10 haunted locations, each with its own layout, hiding spots, and environmental twists. These differences affect navigation and where evidence is likely to appear.
Players can explore each site’s unique features, such as locked rooms or outdoor areas, to locate clues while staying aware of potential ghost activity.
- Study the map layout before entering to plan efficient routes.
- Mark key rooms where evidence is commonly found.

Adjustable Difficulty
Phasmophobia includes five default difficulty levels and weekly challenges that modify the amount of evidence required and the ghost’s behavior. These presets let players test their skills progressively.
A custom difficulty mode lets groups set their own parameters and proportional rewards, enabling the creation of tailored game experiences.
- Start with the default levels to learn each ghost’s patterns.
- When using custom settings, adjust rewards to match the difficulty changes.
