About Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 is a next‑generation action RPG from Grinding Gear Games that supports solo play and online co‑op for up to six players. Set in the dark continent of Wraeclast, the game introduces a new six‑act campaign, over a hundred distinct environments, and a looming Corruption threat.

The title adds twelve base classes, each with three Ascendancy specialisations, a revamped skill‑gem system, dual‑specialisation on the Passive Skill Tree, and a massive item pool. An expansive endgame follows the campaign, offering new biomes, crafting, and map‑modifier trees.

01 / THE GUIDE

Character Classes and Ascendancies

Path of Exile 2 provides twelve base classes, two for each Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence combination. Each class starts a distinct playstyle but can be mixed with skills from other classes.

Every class has three Ascendancy specialisations, giving a total of thirty‑six Ascendancy options. These specialisations deepen the character’s abilities beyond the base class.

  • Experiment with different class‑Ascendancy pairings to discover synergistic builds.
  • Use the Ascendancy choices to complement your preferred skill gems.

02 / THE GUIDE

Skill Gem System

The game introduces 240 active Skill Gems and 200 Support Gems. Support Gems are now socketed directly into Skill Gems, allowing six‑link configurations for every skill.

This redesign removes many frustrations of the previous system while preserving its depth, letting players craft highly customised abilities.

  • Combine multiple Support Gems within a single Skill Gem to maximise damage.
  • Plan six‑link setups early to avoid later re‑socketing.

03 / THE GUIDE

Dual‑Specialisation Passive Tree

The iconic Passive Skill Tree returns with 1,500 nodes and a Dual Specialisation feature. Players can allocate points to two separate skill sets that activate based on the weapon or skill type in use.

For example, points can be split between daggers and traps, or ice and lightning, allowing flexible switching without sacrificing progress.

  • Allocate complementary specialisations to cover multiple weapon types.
  • Test the activation of each set by swapping weapons during play.

04 / THE GUIDE

Items and Equipment

Path of Exile 2 adds 700 equipment base types, each with a unique item version. New weapon categories include Spears, Crossbows, and Flails, while supplementary items such as Focuses, Traps, and redesigned Sceptres expand options.

Every base type can be found throughout the campaign and endgame, offering diverse stat combinations for character builds.

  • Seek out the new weapon types to diversify damage sources.
  • Combine supplementary items with skill gems for synergistic effects.

05 / THE GUIDE

Endgame Exploration

After completing the six‑act campaign, players enter an expansive endgame with multiple biomes, powerful crafting, and challenging bosses. Special passive trees can be unlocked to modify map rewards and difficulty.

The endgame also revisits several Path of Exile leagues, presenting familiar mechanics with new monsters, bosses, and progression.

  • Unlock endgame passive trees to tailor map difficulty to your skill level.
  • Explore different biomes to discover unique crafting materials.
