About Once Upon a Galaxy
Once Upon a Galaxy is a free‑to‑play, fast‑paced card battler where you command a captain and a crew drawn from myth and fairy‑tale lore. Each match starts by picking a captain whose unique effect shapes the round, then you recruit characters, cast spells, and position cards for an automatic showdown.
The game mixes single‑player and online PvP, offering asynchronous battles against human opponents and live 6‑player lobbies for heightened competition. It runs on Windows, macOS, and mobile devices, and a cross‑platform account keeps your collection and progress synced across all supported platforms.
01 / THE GUIDE
Captain Selection
At the start of every game you choose a captain, and each captain provides a distinct effect that influences your strategy. Captains such as Dorothy, Dragonmother, Indiana Clones, and Geppetto are highlighted, and new captains are added each month, expanding tactical options.
Every captain also brings a personal list of elite collectible characters. You select twelve of these elite cards before a match, and they are mixed into the common card pool, allowing you to tailor the cards you might draw during play.
- Try several captains to see which unique effect best complements your preferred card synergies.
- Keep an eye on monthly captain releases; newer captains can introduce fresh mechanics that shift deckbuilding choices.

Card Recruitment and Auto‑Battle
Each round you recruit characters and cast spells, then carefully position your cards before the turn resolves. After placement, the cards automatically battle the opponent’s crew without further input, emphasizing planning over reflexes.
Cards are drawn from a common pool, but the twelve elite cards attached to your chosen captain are added to that pool, increasing the variety of draws you may receive in a given match.
- Focus on positioning cards where their abilities will trigger most effectively against opponent placements.
- Mix common‑pool cards with captain‑specific elites to create unexpected combos.

Faction Synergies
Characters belong to factions such as Dragons, Mages, or Toys, each with a thematic focus. Dragons favor treasure effects, Mages enhance spells, and Toys can summon additional characters during combat, allowing layered strategies.
Combining treasure effects with faction abilities can produce powerful outcomes, and selecting crews with complementary faction traits often yields stronger overall performance.
- Pair treasure‑loving Dragons with high‑value loot cards to maximize bonus effects.
- Use Toy crews when you need extra board presence, as they can generate additional units during fights.

Multiplayer Modes
Galaxy offers asynchronous PvP where your completed run joins an opponent pool for others to challenge, and live 6‑player lobbies for real‑time competition. Both modes let you face human opponents whenever you want.
Matchmaking is handled by the game’s online system, removing the need for timers or pressure, and allowing you to battle at your own pace.
- Start with asynchronous matches to learn opponent patterns without the intensity of live lobbies.
- When ready for higher stakes, join a 6‑player live lobby to test your deck against multiple opponents simultaneously.

Cross‑Platform Progress
The game is available on Windows, macOS, and mobile devices. A cross‑platform account lets you sync your progress across any supported device, letting you continue your journey on the go.
This feature means your progress stays with you regardless of whether you play on a desktop or a tablet.
- Log in with the same account on each device to keep your collection up to date.
- Use mobile play for short sessions and switch to desktop for longer strategic planning.
