About Of Life and Land
In *Of Life and Land* you act as a leader tasked with founding settlements in remote, untamed corners of an empire. Humans, animals and plants each pursue their own needs, and your decisions shape how they coexist.
The game offers a deep simulation of nature intertwined with low‑poly visuals. You manage resources, citizen needs and seasonal cycles, can pause or change the speed at any moment, and you can craft custom maps using the built‑in editor.
01 / THE GUIDE
Nature Simulation
Animals search for food, water, rest and social interaction while plants require water and suitable temperature to survive. The simulation tracks these needs, allowing populations to grow, decline or multiply based on your actions.
Seasonal weather influences growth: certain plants appear only in specific seasons, and extreme temperatures can exhaust or harm both humans and wildlife.
- Observe animal movement before altering food sources to avoid sudden spikes.
- Plan planting around seasonal windows to keep crops alive through temperature changes.

Resource Management
You manage acquisition, refinement and distribution of goods across multiple maps with different climates. Goods must be moved by entities that have the time and space to transport them.
As settlements expand, supply lines become longer, requiring careful planning to keep citizens and wildlife supplied.
- Map transport routes early to spot potential bottlenecks.
- Use refined goods where they support both human needs and animal habitats.

03 / THE GUIDE
Citizen Well‑Being
Each villager has a home, workplace and a broad range of needs and goals. Their energy requirements shift with temperature, needing more warmth in winter and more water in summer.
Citizens are “alive” in the simulation, reacting to environmental changes and resource availability as they pursue their needs and goals.
- Monitor citizen energy during temperature extremes to prevent exhaustion.
- Provide varied workplaces to satisfy different citizen goals.

Time Control
You can pause, speed up or slow down the game at any moment, letting you react to weather changes or population shifts without timed input.
Adjusting the pace lets you take a measured approach during harsh conditions or accelerate observation of long‑term ecological trends.
- Slow down during severe weather to fine‑tune resource allocation.
- Speed up in stable periods to see longer‑term effects.

Map Editor & Mods
The integrated editor lets you reshape landscapes, generate plants, place animals and connect watercourses. You can also link existing maps to form a larger world.
Maps and scenarios created in the editor can be shared via Steam Workshop and extended with community mods.
- Start with a small test map before expanding.
- Use watercourse tools to ensure adequate hydration for plants and wildlife.
