About Nightwater

Nightwater drops you onto a solitary island surrounded by a sea of liquid void and starlight, ringed by impassable mountains. The world feels mysterious yet familiar, urging you to master its reality and progress toward the Lighthouse.

Your task is to gather raw resources, transform them into factories, and expand the island with new biomes. Along the way you can explore optional minigames and uncover an optional story that leads to four possible endings.

01 / THE GUIDE

Resource Gathering

Resources appear across multiple distinct biomes, each with its own progression path. You can collect them by hand, meeting milestone goals that unlock new buildings, crafts, and buffs.

Automating collection with machines speeds progress and frees time for other activities. Every resource contributes to the larger production chain, and reaching its milestones expands your technological options.

  • Focus early on the most abundant nearby resources to hit initial milestones quickly.
  • Watch which resources unlock the most useful buildings and prioritize those.

02 / THE GUIDE

Automation Buildings

Nightwater provides over sixty buildings, including farmers, assemblers, and storage units. These structures can be placed, moved, or deconstructed at any time without losing items, allowing flexible layout changes.

By constructing multiple machines you can scale production, making factories faster and larger while you focus on other gameplay aspects such as minigames or exploration.

  • Place machines close to the resources they process to reduce travel distance.
  • Reposition buildings as you expand biomes to keep your layout efficient.

03 / THE GUIDE

Biome Expansion

The island can be expanded by manifesting new biomes, each offering unique resources and secrets. Exploring these biomes unlocks additional resources, crafts, and buffs that feed into your factories.

Biomes are central to progression; the exclusive materials they provide enable new building unlocks and enhance existing production loops.

  • Visit each biome early to catalog its exclusive resources.
  • Plan your factory layout with space for future biome‑specific materials.

04 / THE GUIDE

Optional Minigames

Five distinct minigames each have their own gameplay loop, items, upgrades, and progression. While optional, they provide fresh variety and unlock powerful buildings, crafts, and buffs usable outside the minigames.

Progressing in a minigame while your machines operate lets you advance multiple systems simultaneously, adding depth without interrupting core factory development.

  • Rotate through different minigames to keep gameplay varied.
  • Target minigames that reward buffs for resources you currently need.

05 / THE GUIDE

Story and Endings

Nightwater includes a deep, personal story that is never handed to you directly. Hidden clues throughout the world let players piece together the truth behind the island and the Lighthouse.

The narrative is fully optional; anyone can finish without engaging it, but players who search for the truth can uncover four endings and secret areas.

  • Take notes on cryptic text and environmental hints to aid later discovery.
  • Explore hidden corners of each biome for story fragments.
