About Neon Chrome
Neon Chrome is a twin‑stick top‑down shooter where each death starts a fresh, procedurally generated path that ends with a showdown against the Overseer. The environment is fully destructible, allowing walls and floors to be blown apart while you loot credits.
The game offers single‑player and shared‑screen local co‑op. Before each run you pick one of three randomized assets—a class, weapon and ability combo—that inherits all permanent stat upgrades you have earned.
01 / THE GUIDE
Procedurally generated levels
After each death the game creates a completely new path that mixes randomly generated futuristic corridors with hand‑crafted puzzle sections. Every generated run always concludes with a final showdown, ensuring each playthrough feels distinct.
Because the environment is fully destructible, you can shoot through walls and floors, reshaping the level as you advance. This destructibility interacts with the random layout, offering tactical choices beyond static map design.
- Observe how different weapons affect the speed at which you can clear a wall.
- Notice the contrast between random corridors and hand‑crafted challenge rooms.

Cybernetic enhancements (perk system)
At upgrade stations you can choose from over four dozen cybernetic enhancements that affect health, protection, defense and assault systems. These upgrades are presented as a perk system and can be selected during a run.
The enhancements you acquire persist between runs, permanently improving stats such as health, luck and damage. This persistent progression works alongside the temporary upgrades you may obtain within a single run.
- Balance defensive and offensive enhancements to match the enemy types you encounter.
- Combine permanent stat boosts with run‑specific cybernetics for flexible builds.

Asset selection before each run
Before starting a run you choose one of three randomized assets. Each asset is a unique combination of class, weapon and ability, and it includes all permanent stat improvements you have earned.
The assets differ in theme—for example, a sneaky assassin with mines versus a robust corp soldier with incendiary grenades—providing distinct tactical options for each run.
- Try each asset to see how its innate ability interacts with your current cybernetics.
- Consider the weapon type when evaluating an asset’s overall effectiveness.

Shared‑screen local co‑op
Neon Chrome supports shared‑screen local co‑op, allowing multiple players to tackle the procedurally generated building together on the same display. The game supports 2-4 players in shared screen local co-op.
Co-op lets friends join you in working your way toward the final showdown against the Overseer.
- Coordinate wall destruction to keep teammates in the same area.
- Watch how different players handle enemy types to share effective tactics.

Level editor and Steam Workshop
The game includes a level editor that lets players design their own maps, which can be shared through the Steam Workshop. This tool expands replayability beyond the built‑in procedural system.
Community‑created maps may introduce new challenges or aesthetic variations, offering fresh experiences alongside the built-in procedural system.
- Browse Workshop maps to see how creators use destructibility in novel ways.
- Try building a map that emphasizes vertical destruction to test combat flow.
