About Needle In A Haystack
Needle in a Haystack is a cooperative simulation where up to six players search a massive hay pile for hidden needles. The premise is simple: the needle exists somewhere among millions of pieces of hay, and friends can dig, spread out, or argue about promising spots.
Players earn money while searching, which can be spent on equipment that changes how the pile can be tackled. The game encourages experimentation, distraction, and a relaxed pace, letting groups decide whether to take the hunt seriously or turn it into a casual afternoon.

Co‑op Dynamics
The game supports up to six players working together online. Each participant can choose how to contribute—digging, spreading out, or simply chatting while the group searches. Adding more players does not guarantee increased efficiency, as coordination can become chaotic.
Co‑op play is designed to be flexible, allowing groups to settle in and talk while the search continues. The experience can shift from focused teamwork to light‑hearted banter, depending on how the players manage their time and communication.
- Try assigning simple roles (digger, scout, communicator) to keep the group organized.
- Talk with your group to coordinate areas of the haystack and avoid duplicate effort.

Equipment and Economy
Money is earned as you search and can be spent on equipment that opens new ways to interact with the hay. Players can experiment with different tools or invest heavily in a single idea they believe will work.
The game offers many items that can be moved, picked up, or thrown, providing a sandbox of possibilities. While some equipment may seem directly useful for finding the needle, many items serve purely experimental or comedic purposes.
- Test a variety of tools early to discover unexpected uses.
- Balance spending between practical gear and fun gadgets to keep sessions lively.

Needle Collection
There are multiple needle types, each with a distinct appearance. Collecting them adds to a personal collection, encouraging players to keep searching even after finding one needle.
The collection aspect is separate from the core search, giving an additional goal that can motivate continued play and friendly competition among friends.
- Track which needle types you have to avoid redundant searches.
- Share collection progress with friends to spark cooperative challenges.

Distractions and Discoveries
Beyond the haystack, the game hides other discoveries and events that can pull attention away from the primary search. Players may encounter random happenings that inspire new plans or cause them to abandon existing ones.
The design intentionally leaves these moments unstructured, allowing groups to stumble upon them organically and decide how to react, whether by integrating them into the hunt or ignoring them.
- Stay open to unexpected events; they can add memorable moments.
- If a distraction becomes too disruptive, pause and regroup before continuing.

The game includes full controller support, camera comfort options, custom volume controls, adjustable difficulty, and the ability to save anytime. These features let players tailor the experience to their comfort level.
Additional Steam integrations such as achievements, cloud saves, leaderboards, and family sharing further enhance accessibility, ensuring progress can be retained across sessions and shared with others.
- Adjust difficulty to match your group's preferred pace.
- Use the save‑anytime feature before trying a risky experiment.
