About NEBULOUS: Fleet Command
NEBULOUS: Fleet Command puts you in charge of a space fleet, blending pre‑mission planning, real‑time decision‑making and the weight of sacrifice. You control every ship down to its hardpoints, shaping tactics across massive 3‑D maps with cover, radar occlusion and dynamic enemy threats.
Both solo and co‑op campaigns let you strike behind enemy lines, scavenge fuel and munitions, and adapt to a growing rebellion. Separate skirmish modes let you test fleet designs against AI or human opponents, while extensive mod support lets the community expand maps, ships and scenarios.
01 / THE GUIDE
Tactical Combat in a 3‑D Battlespace
Combat unfolds in fully three‑dimensional space where cover, radar shadows and line‑of‑sight matter. Positioning ships behind asteroids or gas clouds can hide them from sensors, forcing opponents to rely on illuminators or fire‑control radars.
Weapons have compounding benefits and drawbacks; grouping fire may be powerful but also draws attention. Choosing the right weapon for each target is as crucial as deciding which targets to engage, and electronic countermeasures can jam enemy sensors to protect your fleet.
- Use asteroids to break line‑of‑sight and force enemies to reveal themselves with illuminators.
- Mix weapon types across your fleet to cover each other's weaknesses.

Fleet Design and Point‑Cost Balancing
Each ship class—battleship, cruiser, frigate, corvette—has a point cost that keeps fleets balanced. You configure munitions storage, power units, electronic warfare, damage control and point‑defense systems, tailoring each vessel to your play‑style.
Scouting enemy composition is essential; you may spend much of a battle identifying opponent capabilities before committing fire. Adapt your design on the fly by salvaging weapons and fuel from destroyed ships to stay competitive against evolving threats.
- Allocate points to point‑defense early to protect high‑value capital ships.
- Keep a mix of ship sizes to handle both swarm and heavy‑hit scenarios.

Resource Management: Fuel and Munitions
Your strike‑force operates with limited fuel and ammunition, requiring careful allocation before each engagement. Scavenging from installations or wrecked enemy ships can replenish supplies, allowing you to extend missions or reinforce weakened units.
Balancing risk versus reward is key: secondary objectives may grant valuable resources but expose your ships to danger. Deciding when to retreat for repairs versus pressing the attack can determine long‑term survivability.
- Prioritize scavenging missions when your fuel reserves dip below 30%.
- Retreat to repair critical systems before committing to a second wave of attacks.

Intelligence, Sensors and Electronic Warfare
Intel drives victory; radar shadows from asteroids or gas clouds can hide ships, while electronic countermeasures jam, scramble or mitigate enemy sensors. Ships can run cool, deactivating systems to reduce their signature at the cost of functionality.
Formations add defensive layers, but tightly grouped ships increase radar signature. Managing occlusion, passive detection and deceptive tactics creates a constant battle for information superiority.
- Deploy picket ships to screen capital vessels and reduce overall signature.
- Use cool‑down mode when crossing open space to lower detection chances.

Modding Support and Campaign Editor
NEBULOUS offers extensive Steam Workshop modding, with hundreds of community‑created maps, ships and weapons. The built‑in Campaign Editor lets you craft narrative campaigns, add cutscenes, scripted events and custom fleets.
These tools enable players to share their own stories and scenarios, expanding replayability beyond the base content and allowing unique tactical challenges crafted by the community.
- Start with a simple map mod to learn placement of cover objects.
- Use the editor’s scripting to trigger intel drops for dynamic battles.
