About Mushihimesama

Mushihimesama is a vertical‑shooting game set in a fantasy world where Princess Reco rides her Golden Beetle, Kiniro, to confront giant insect‑like Koju. The story follows her quest through the Shinju Forest to seek a cure for her people’s mysterious illness.

The game presents five HD‑sprite stages, multiple weapon and option types, and several difficulty modes ranging from Novice to Ultra. Players can adjust view settings, use vertical "tate" mode, and enjoy local co‑op, leaderboards and Steam achievements.

01 / THE GUIDE

Story and Setting

Reco, a young princess, leaves her village after a sickness spreads, aiming to meet the Koju God for a cure. She travels with her beetle companion, Kiniro, across varied environments such as a blazing desert, lush forest, and serene cave.

The world is rendered in vibrant HD sprites, contrasting the beautiful fantasy backdrop with aggressive Koju creatures that dominate the landscape. Each stage’s visual design reinforces the narrative of a perilous journey through the Shinju Forest.

  • Watch early enemy patterns to anticipate bullet streams.
  • Use the distinct stage themes to practice different movement strategies.

Game Modes

Arcade mode mirrors the original arcade experience, while Novice mode balances the same layout for newer players. Arrange mode starts with maximum firepower and provides automatic defense, offering a different tactical feel.

Bold players can try Ultra mode, noted for its extreme difficulty. An optional V1.5 "Matsuri" DLC adds a remixed mode with alternate music, faster bullet speed, and a score multiplier for close‑range fire.

  • Begin with Novice to learn bullet patterns before tackling Ultra.
  • Try Matsuri mode for a fresh take on familiar stages.
