About Moonlighter
Moonlighter is an Action‑RPG with rogue‑lite elements that follows Will, a shopkeeper‑adventurer who runs a store in the village of Rynoka by day and explores mysterious gates by night. The game mixes combat, crafting, and shop management into a single loop.
Since launch the title has added new mini‑bosses, gear, over 100 room layouts, companions, deeper lore, and a New Game+ mode. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and supports full controller use, Steam Cloud and remote‑play features.
01 / THE GUIDE
Shopkeeping
In Rynoka you can place items for sale, set their price, and manage gold reserves. The system also lets you recruit assistants and upgrade the shop, giving you more storage and display options.
Shady characters may attempt to steal wares, so careful pricing and inventory decisions are important. Successful sales provide the funds needed for upgrades and new equipment.
- Set prices slightly below market value to encourage quick sales.
- Upgrade shop storage early to accommodate larger loot hauls.
02 / THE GUIDE
Combat
Combat relies on weapon mastery, critical timing, positioning and an awareness of enemy behavior. Enemies and bosses each have distinct patterns that require different tactics to survive.
The game does not prescribe a single fighting style; players can adapt their approach by using the environment, timing dodges and choosing weapons that suit the current encounter.
- Watch enemy attack cues before committing to a strike.
- Practice dodging to create openings for critical hits.

03 / THE GUIDE
Crafting & Enchanting
Interacting with villagers unlocks the ability to craft new armor and weapons. Crafted items expand your options for dealing with the varied challenges found in the gates.
Existing gear can be enchanted, adding flexibility to how equipment performs. Both crafting and enchanting are presented as essential tools for progression.
- Prioritize crafting gear that matches your preferred weapon type.
- Enchant frequently used items to boost their effectiveness.
04 / THE GUIDE
Exploration Through Gates
Ancient gates discovered during an excavation lead to different realms and dimensions. Each gate presents a unique set of room layouts, enemies and loot, making every run distinct.
Because each run is unique, players must make calculated decisions about preparation and inventory. The unpredictable nature of the gates encourages adaptability.
- Carry a balanced mix of offensive and defensive items.
- Leave low‑value loot behind to avoid inventory overflow.
05 / THE GUIDE
Companions
Updates have introduced companions that can be befriended during your adventures. The game notes their presence as part of the expanded content.
Companions are listed as a new feature, but the source does not detail specific gameplay effects, leaving their role open to player discovery.
- Talk to companions to learn any dialogue hints they may offer.
- Observe any changes in the game after befriending a companion.
