About Moonbase Alpha
Moonbase Alpha puts you in the boots of an astronaut tasked with restoring life support after a meteor strike on a lunar outpost. You must manage resources, repair equipment, and keep oxygen flowing while racing against the clock. The game supports up to six players online or LAN, featuring voice chat, rover transport, build‑your‑own repair robots, and a leaderboard that records your completion time for bragging rights.
01 / THE GUIDE
Team Coordination
Up to six players can join a session via LAN or internet, using voice communication to plan and execute repairs. Success depends on allocating robots, rovers, and tools among teammates efficiently.
The scoring system measures the time taken to restore life support, encouraging groups to refine their collaborative strategies across multiple playthroughs.
- Assign a dedicated communicator to keep updates flowing.
- Rotate roles between robot builder and rover driver to balance workload.
02 / THE GUIDE
Rover Transport
A fully functional rover, based on lunar physics, moves players and supplies across the base. It can reach any area of the colony, making it essential for delivering repair parts quickly.
Because the rover follows realistic lunar movement, planning routes that avoid steep slopes can shave seconds off the overall repair time.
- Map the shortest path before loading cargo.
- Use the rover to ferry multiple items in one trip when possible.

03 / THE GUIDE
Repair Robots
Players can build and pilot their own repair robots to fix critical systems. Robots let you fix crucial systems directly, complementing the rover's transport role.
Robots can be deployed simultaneously by different teammates, enabling parallel repairs and reducing the total time needed to restore oxygen production.
- Deploy robots near the most damaged systems first.
- Coordinate robot tasks so they don’t overlap on the same component.
04 / THE GUIDE
Lunar Environment
The game features an accurate moonscape at the south pole, with realistic lighting and terrain. This visual fidelity adds immersion while also influencing navigation and rover handling.
Environmental details such as crater edges and regolith slopes affect how quickly you can move supplies, making terrain awareness a tactical consideration.
- Use high ground to spot optimal rover routes.
- Watch for shadowed areas that may hide obstacles.

Leaderboards & Scoring
When a team completes the repair mission, their time is automatically posted to Steam leaderboards. This public ranking motivates players to improve efficiency and experiment with different strategies.
Multiple paths to success mean each run can reveal new time‑saving techniques, encouraging replayability and competition among friends.
- Review previous leaderboard times to set realistic goals.
- Experiment with different team compositions to find the fastest workflow.
