About Monstrum
Monstrum reimagines survival horror on a derelict cargo ship where each run reshapes the interior, moves items, and pits you against one of three AI‑driven predators. The game forces you to locate tools, hide, and devise escape plans while the environment itself can kill you.
Every death is permanent, sending you to a fresh ship with a new layout and possibly a different monster. Success relies on using lockers, furniture, and distractions wisely, and on finding one of several escape routes before a trap or the predator ends the run.
01 / THE GUIDE
Three Unique Monsters
Each play‑through features one of three monster types, each described as having different behaviours and tactics. This means the creature may ambush, chase directly, or use other patterns, so a single approach cannot be assumed to work every time.
Because the monster changes each run, you must watch its early movements and decide whether hiding, fleeing, or using distractions fits its current tactics. Observing these behaviours helps you choose actions that are more likely to keep you alive.
- Note the monster’s initial movement style to decide between hiding or running.
- Try a simple distraction early to see how the current monster reacts.

Procedural Arena
The ship’s interior shifts shape with every run, moving corridors and item locations. This procedural generation ensures that familiar routes may disappear and new paths appear each time you start a session.
The changing layout requires you to explore anew, locate essential tools, and constantly reassess safe zones. No two escapes follow the exact same map, so each run feels distinct.
- Treat each new layout as a fresh puzzle and map landmarks as you find them.
- Pay attention to where items appear, as their positions change each run.

Escape Routes
The game offers multiple methods to leave the ship, each requiring you to locate items needed to repair an escape point. Recovering the items needed to repair them means delving into the bowels of the ship.
Exploring deeper can uncover the necessary components, but moving farther also increases exposure to the predator and to the ship’s numerous traps.
- Balance deeper exploration with the risk of encountering the monster.
- Remember the positions of known escape points for quicker retreats.

Opportunities and Hazards
You can hide in lockers or under furniture, and you may use distractions to lure the predator away. The environment also contains traps that can end a run if you move too quickly.
Both the hiding spots and the traps require careful timing; sprinting may cause you to fall into a trap, while a well‑placed distraction can draw the predator away from your path.
- Use lockers or furniture when you need a quick hide, but stay aware of nearby traps.
- Observe where traps are located and plan routes that avoid sudden sprints.
05 / THE GUIDE
Permadeath
Death is permanent; a kill forces you to start again in a different ship, often with a different monster. No progress or items carry over between runs.
This design emphasizes caution and strategic planning, as each failure erases the knowledge and tools gathered in that specific session, prompting you to adapt anew each time.
- Treat each run as a learning opportunity and note what led to death.
- Prioritize survival over aggressive tactics when the monster’s behaviour is unclear.
