About Monster Hunter: World
Monster Hunter: World drops you into the New World, an ecosystem where monsters roam diverse habitats. As a hunter you accept quests, track beasts, and harvest materials from defeated monsters to forge stronger weapons and armor.
You may hunt alone or join up to three other players in co‑op. The game encourages using terrain, scoutflies, the Slinger and Palico companions to gain tactical advantages while uncovering the Elder Crossing mystery.

Quest Structure
Quests are issued by the Research Commission and direct you to hunt specific monsters or complete objectives within each locale. Completing a quest grants materials, experience and sometimes special items that unlock further missions.
Each quest lists the target monster’s rank and any required items, letting you prepare appropriate gear before heading out. The description makes clear whether the hunt can be joined by other hunters.
- Check the quest rank and required items before departing.
- Coordinate with teammates early if you plan to hunt together.

Weapon Variety
Hunters have access to fourteen distinct weapon types, each with its own attack patterns and characteristics. Weapons range from fast, light blades to heavy, high‑damage greatswords, offering many tactical options.
You can switch weapons between hunts, allowing you to match a weapon’s reach and move set to a monster’s size and behavior. Mastery of multiple weapons is common, though many hunters focus on a single favorite.
- Try a few weapon types early to see which feels comfortable.
- Consider a weapon’s reach when facing larger monsters.

Palico Companion
Palicoes accompany hunters as reliable field partners, offering offensive, defensive and restorative support abilities. They act as members of the Fifth Fleet and can use a variety of tools during a hunt.
Palicoes operate autonomously, providing extra tactical depth without requiring separate player control. Their presence can influence the flow of combat through timely attacks or defensive actions.
- Observe how your Palico reacts to monster attacks to adjust your positioning.
- Use Palico abilities that complement your own weapon style.

Slinger Tool
The Slinger lets you gather stones and nuts from each locale and fire them as projectiles. These can be used for diversion, creating shortcuts, or triggering environmental effects during a hunt.
Because the ammunition is collected in the field, you can adapt the loadout to the terrain or monster you expect to face, adding flexibility beyond melee attacks.
- Collect a mix of stone and nut ammunition before entering a new area.
- Use the Slinger to lure monsters toward terrain hazards when possible.

Scoutflies Tracking
Scoutflies record monster footprints, gashes and other tracks, then guide you toward nearby monster scents. As you gather more tracks, they provide increasingly detailed information about the monster’s recent movements.
The system operates automatically once activated, turning environmental clues into actionable intel that helps you locate elusive beasts and plan ambushes without manual searching.
- Follow scoutfly cues promptly to keep the scent fresh.
- Gather additional tracks to improve the detail of the information provided.
