About Mirklurk: Every Step Matters
Mirklurk: Every Step Matters is a turn‑based survival RPG where each turn you allocate Action Points to move, fight, or prepare. The swamp environment tracks hunger, focus, energy and warmth, all of which shape how far you can explore before nightfall.
The world blends randomly generated terrain with handcrafted locations such as ancient ruins and camps, creating fresh routes each playthrough. Survival is deliberately hard; frequent loss is expected as you learn to balance combat, resource gathering and camp preparation.
01 / THE GUIDE
Survival Mechanics
The game monitors four survival stats—hunger, focus/tiredness, energy and warmth. Each stat directly influences actions: low warmth makes night travel risky, while hunger and warmth shape your survival choices.
Equipment choices affect those stats. A steel chestplate provides strong defense but hampers climbing ability and reduces warmth retention, forcing you to weigh protection against mobility and heat.
- Gather extra firewood before night to offset warmth loss.
- Consider lighter armor when you need to climb steep terrain.

Turn‑Based Combat
Combat proceeds in a puzzle‑like, turn‑based system where each action consumes Action Points. Weapons feature distinct attack patterns and effects, so planning each turn is essential.
Enemies are as formidable as the swamp itself, making positioning and timing critical for surviving encounters and preserving your limited resources.
- Reserve some Action Points for defensive moves against tough foes.
- Test different weapon patterns to discover reliable attack combos.

Randomly Generated Terrain
Each playthrough combines procedurally generated swamps with handcrafted sites, ensuring routes and discoveries differ every run while still featuring recognizable landmarks like ruins and camps.
These landmarks act as reference points amid the shifting landscape, helping you orient yourself and plan future expeditions.
- Mark discovered landmarks on your map to avoid unnecessary backtracking.
- Use the randomness to explore new foraging spots each run.

Skills and Playstyles
A broad skill system supports varied approaches: foraging, potion brewing, hunting, trading, exploring and looting. Selecting skills shapes how you acquire resources and survive.
The flexibility lets you specialize in combat, crafting, or commerce, each presenting its own advantages and challenges within the survival loop.
- Focus on a core skill early to streamline resource management.
- Mix combat and crafting skills for a balanced survivability.

Difficulty and Challenge
The game is intentionally challenging; frequent failure is expected as you learn the survival systems. Dungeons act as dangerous trials that demand careful preparation.
Adjustable difficulty and a “playable without timed input” option let you tailor the challenge while preserving the core tension of managing hunger, warmth and combat.
- Start on a lower difficulty to grasp core mechanics before increasing the challenge.
- Use the no‑timed‑input mode to plan each turn without pressure.
