About Mimic Busters
Mimic Busters is an online multiplayer experience where players split into two roles: Mimics, who reshape a sentient cube into any visible prop using built‑in 3D tools, and Busters, who hunt those hidden cubes before time expires. The game emphasizes quick visual disguise creation without requiring prior modeling skill.
Multiple modes let participants switch between creative modeling and fast‑paced shooting, and the title runs on Windows, macOS and Linux via Steam with a range of accessibility options and Steam‑integrated features.
01 / THE GUIDE
3D Modeling Tools
Players access a simple, intuitive suite of 3D modeling tools that let a cube be reshaped and painted to match any prop in view. The same tools also allow customization of the character’s head, limbs and weapon skins, and creations can be saved to a personal library for later use.
No prior modeling experience is required; the tools are designed for rapid disguise creation. Because size influences point rewards, players can experiment with larger forms to see how visual scale affects scoring while still blending into the environment.
- Try several size variations before a match to understand how larger models affect point totals.
- Save multiple versions of a model so you can quickly swap disguises between rounds.

Mimic Playstyle
Mimics hide by becoming the objects they mimic; they do not simply hide behind props. Each disguise emits a squeak every 30 seconds, giving Busters an audio cue to locate the hidden cube.
Points increase when a Mimic’s model is placed near MBI agents, and larger models earn more points. This encourages players to consider both visual blending and strategic positioning relative to agents.
- Listen for the periodic squeak to narrow down a Mimic’s location.
- Position disguises near MBI agents to take advantage of the double‑point bonus.

Buster Hunting Mechanics
Busters locate Mimics using firearms and rely on the 30‑second squeak cues to pinpoint hidden cubes. Busters are warned not to spray the room hoping a stray bullet finds its target, so deliberate shots matter.
Because every bullet costs you health, Busters benefit from careful listening and deliberate aiming rather than indiscriminate fire, making audio awareness a core part of the hunting strategy.
- Wait for a clear squeak before firing to improve shot accuracy.
- Aim at the center of a suspected prop to increase the chance of a hit.

Game Modes
Guess the Mimic crowns one player as the Mimic, who secretly selects a word from a category and models it for the lobby while others race to guess. This mode serves as a rapid‑modeling challenge.
Mimic Deathmatch focuses on stealth ambushes: players sculpt disguises, blend into the map, and attempt to eliminate opponents before being discovered. Standard Solo and Team Deathmatch provide pure FPS/TPS shootouts without modeling requirements.
- Use Guess the Mimic to practice quick, recognizable modeling under time pressure.
- In Mimic Deathmatch, test different hiding spots to see which yield the most successful ambushes.
