01 / THE GUIDE
Dreamy Levels and Chapters
The game offers more than twenty levels divided into five chapters, each introducing a new song and visual theme. Levels are described as “dreamy” and feature hand‑drawn art that evolves as you progress.
Each level presents its own rhythm challenges, and completing them reveals pieces of the main character’s life story, deepening the narrative as you advance through the chapters.
- Listen to the music early to anticipate beat patterns before the visual cues appear.
- Take note of recurring visual motifs; they often hint at story elements.
02 / THE GUIDE
Hard Mode
Hard Mode is an unlockable difficulty that raises the challenge for rhythm timing and pattern complexity. It is intended for players seeking a stricter test of their sense of beat.
Activating Hard Mode does not alter the visual or musical content, only the precision required to succeed.
- Practice each section in normal mode before attempting Hard Mode.
- Use the assist features to gradually increase difficulty without overwhelming errors.

Level Editor
Melatonin includes an easy‑to‑use level editor that lets players design their own rhythm stages. Created levels can be shared through Steam Workshop, expanding the game’s content beyond the base offering.
The editor integrates the game’s music and visual style, allowing custom beats to be synchronized with hand‑drawn assets.
- Start with a simple song and add one visual cue at a time to keep timing clear.
- Test your level frequently using Practice Mode to catch timing mismatches early.

Assist Features and Practice Mode
Players who feel lost can enable various assist features, which are optional and designed to aid rhythm comprehension. Practice Mode guides users through each level step‑by‑step, offering a slower pace for learning patterns.
These tools do not change the core gameplay but provide a safety net for newcomers.
- Enable visual assists first, then gradually reduce them as you improve.
- Use Practice Mode to isolate difficult sections before attempting the full run.

Additional options such as Keyboard Only and Custom Volume Controls let players tailor the experience to their preferences.
