About Megaquarium
Megaquarium is an economic simulation where you build and run a modern aquarium. Starting with a few tanks and basic livestock, you expand to a bustling facility filled with guests, staff, and a wide variety of marine species. The game blends classic theme‑park management with aquatic care, requiring you to balance design, staff hiring, research, and finances.
A ten‑level campaign teaches core mechanics, while a sandbox mode offers unlimited customisation and random challenges. With nearly 100 species and over 100 objects to place, every decision—from animal grouping to equipment layout—has visible effects on visitor satisfaction and profitability.
01 / THE GUIDE
Campaign Mode
The campaign consists of ten levels that act as a tutorial, each presenting unique gameplay conditions and objectives. As you progress, new features and concepts are introduced, guiding you through aquarium design and management basics.
Each level challenges you to build an aquarium that meets specific goals, such as guest numbers or financial targets, while teaching you how to use staff, research, and decoration tools effectively.
- Focus on mastering one new mechanic per level before tackling the next.
- Use the level objectives as a checklist to ensure you’ve covered all required tasks.

Sandbox Mode
Sandbox mode removes preset objectives, allowing full customisation of settings and access to a random challenge generator. This mode lets you experiment with unlimited fish‑related gameplay scenarios.
You can adjust difficulty, enable or disable various challenges, and test different layouts, staff configurations, and animal groupings without the constraints of campaign goals.
- Try different challenge presets to discover which management styles suit you best.
- Use sandbox to prototype layouts before applying them in campaign levels.

Staff Management
Hiring staff is based on their skills and future potential. You can develop a versatile team of multi‑disciplined workers or specialise with experts, weighing the pros and cons of each approach.
Staff talks can be scheduled by subject, time, and frequency, which can increase point income, adding another layer to financial strategy.
- Balance specialist and generalist staff to cover both complex animal needs and routine tasks.
- Schedule regular staff talks to boost point income without extra hiring.

Animal Care & Research
The game features 97 species, each with unique care requirements such as specific water quality, food, and equipment. Research points earned from guests allow you to discover new livestock and technology.
Upgrading tanks, filters, and other equipment is essential for meeting the needs of more demanding species while keeping expenses in check.
- Group animals with similar water requirements to simplify filtration needs.
- Prioritise research that unlocks higher‑value species once your finances are stable.

Guest Facilities & Profit
Happy guests require seating, food, drinks, and toilet facilities. Providing these amenities encourages longer visits and higher spending. After tours, directing guests to the gift shop can further boost profits.
Balancing guest comfort with operational costs is key; over‑investing in facilities can hurt the bottom line, while under‑investing may lower satisfaction scores.
- Place food and drink dispensers near high‑traffic areas to increase sales.
- Monitor guest satisfaction and adjust facility placement before expanding the aquarium.
