About Maxwell's puzzling demon
Maxwell's Puzzling Demon is a single‑player block‑pushing puzzle game for Windows. The player guides a demon that prefers cool blocks; blocks carry a temperature label, and hot blocks can be cooled when placed next to cold ones. The game contains ten worlds and more than 350 levels, arranged in block‑like clusters.
When a level is solved it becomes a pushable block that can be used to reach other clusters of levels. An optional hint system offers detailed descriptions of each level’s gimmick, helping players understand the temperature interactions required to progress.

Temperature Mechanics
Blocks in the game are marked as hot or cold. The demon does not like hot blocks, but a hot block can be cooled by moving it adjacent to a cold block, which then satisfies the demon’s preference and allows further movement.
The cooling interaction is the central puzzle element; players must arrange blocks so that hot blocks become adjacent to cold ones before they can be pushed further or used to access new areas.
- Identify cold blocks early and plan routes that bring hot blocks next to them.
- Remember that cooling a hot block does not change the demon’s temperature, only the block’s state.

World and Level Structure
The game is divided into ten distinct worlds, each containing dozens of levels. Altogether there are more than 350 levels, and the levels are positioned at different corners within each world, forming block‑like groupings.
Solving a level turns it into a pushable block. These blocks can be moved to reach other clusters of levels, making each world itself a layered puzzle that requires reusing solved levels to progress.
- Clear a full corner of a world to generate a set of pushable blocks.
- Use the newly created blocks to bridge gaps between level clusters.

Hint Feature
A powerful hint feature is built into the game. Activating a hint provides insight into how to solve a specific level and includes a detailed description of the level’s gimmick.
Hints do not automatically solve the puzzle; they simply give players information that can help them deduce the correct block placements and temperature relationships.
- Use hints when you have exhausted other logical placements.
- Read the full description in a hint to spot hidden temperature links.

The game supports Steam Achievements, allowing players to earn in‑game milestones tracked by the Steam platform. No specific achievement details are provided beyond their existence.
Steam Cloud integration is present, meaning that progress saved on one computer can be accessed from another Steam‑linked device, without specifying which data is synchronized.
- Check your Steam library for the achievement list if you wish to track milestones.
