About Lost Flame
Lost Flame is a modern roguelike that blends classic turn‑based combat with a strong focus on positioning and movement. Players explore the ruined kingdom of Hiraeth, battling legendary warriors while uncovering the cause of a cataclysmic event.
The game features permadeath, procedural generation, and more than 100 hours of content. Combat uses stamina for special attacks, weapons are highly customizable through rings, enchantments and scrolls, and enemies vary widely in size and abilities.

Turn‑Based Combat
Each encounter proceeds in discrete turns; on your turn you may move, attack, or use a special weapon action. Most enemy attacks are described as slow, allowing you to step away and avoid damage, which encourages careful placement over simple collision.
Special weapon attacks consume stamina, and when stamina is exhausted you can still perform the basic “bump into enemy” attack, though you then receive increased damage. This creates a resource‑management layer that makes each decision potentially decisive.
- Watch the enemy’s animation before committing; a single step back often evades a slow strike.
- Reserve stamina for moments when a special attack can change the outcome of a tight fight.

Weapon Variety and Attack Patterns
Weapons usually grant three to four distinct special attacks. A longsword can slash three grid tiles in one turn, a short sword lunges one tile and attacks, and a halberd swings in a wide semi‑circle, each with its own range and speed.
The differing attack shapes shape combat strategy: short swords favor rapid, single‑target hits, while large weapons like great axes reward positioning to hit multiple foes at once. Some weapons even introduce entirely new attack types.
- Match weapon reach to enemy clustering; wide‑area attacks excel against groups.
- Try several weapons early to see which attack rhythm aligns with your preferred movement.

Enemy Design
Hiraeth is populated by multitile enemies that occupy several grid spaces and possess unique traits or abilities. Because many foes differ markedly, a single combat approach rarely succeeds across the board.
These varied designs force you to adapt tactics on the fly, reinforcing the game’s emphasis on thoughtful movement and strategic planning rather than brute force.
- Observe an enemy’s shape before engaging; larger foes often have blind spots you can exploit.
- Use mobility‑focused weapons to navigate around multitile enemies efficiently.

Character Customization
Your build is defined entirely by the items you equip. Over 120 ring and amulet types exist, with four ring slots and two amulet slots, each offering unique effects that are not always obvious at first glance.
Enchantments (prefixes and suffixes) and scrolls can modify weapons, armor, rings, wands and other non‑consumables, allowing you to experiment with many combinations without a single “best” answer.
- Swap one ring at a time and note any change in damage, stamina cost or survivability.
- Apply enchantment scrolls to frequently used weapons to maximize their impact.

Game Length and Difficulty
Lost Flame offers more than 100 hours of content, and its power curve remains fairly flat: even with strong equipment your character stays fragile, and a single misstep can end a run because of permadeath.
Early zones already demand thoughtful play, and later areas increase difficulty quickly. Stamina management adds another layer; when it runs out you rely on basic attacks and take more damage, making careful planning essential.
- Treat each encounter as a puzzle; rushing often leads to premature death.
- Monitor stamina closely and plan retreats before it is fully depleted.
