About Kingdoms of the Dump

Kingdoms of the Dump is a turn‑based, grid‑based RPG that follows Dustin Binsley, the Trash Can Knight, across five and a half kingdoms of garbage. The story pits him against a toxic grimelin army and filthy foes in dank dungeons.

The game uses a large Mode 7 world map, character swapping with distinct abilities, and platform‑style jumping and elevation. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and offers a Keyboard‑Only option, partial controller support, Steam achievements, cloud saves and family sharing.

01 / THE GUIDE

Turn‑Based Grid Combat

Combat occurs on a grid where each unit takes its turn, allowing players to plan moves before acting. Hits are timed, and encounters are scripted rather than random.

Characters can be swapped on the field, each bringing a unique ability such as Rust, Climb, Gun, or Bubble. Swapping lets you adapt to enemy patterns without leaving the combat screen.

  • Observe enemy placement before committing a turn to maximize ability synergy.
  • Swap characters early when a foe’s weakness matches a specific ability.

02 / THE GUIDE

Mode 7 World Map Exploration

The large world map employs Mode 7 graphics, creating a sense of depth as you travel between the five and a half kingdoms. You travel across the map between the kingdoms, reaching diverse environments.

Each region showcases creative settings and bosses that reflect the game’s garbage‑themed aesthetic. Exploration reveals new areas without hidden random encounters.

  • Scan the horizon for landmarks that hint at hidden paths.
  • Compare map icons with in‑game descriptions to locate points of interest faster.

03 / THE GUIDE

Jumping and Elevation Mechanics

Beyond combat, the game includes platforming elements such as jumping and elevation changes. These allow you to bypass obstacles that would otherwise block progress, like low bushes.

Elevation is integrated into dungeon design, requiring timing and positioning alongside turn‑based fights. Elevation changes shape how you move through areas between fights.

  • Practice timing jumps in safe areas before attempting them in combat zones.
  • Practice navigating elevated terrain to get comfortable with height changes.

04 / THE GUIDE

Keyboard‑Only and Partial Controller Support

Kingdoms of the Dump provides a Keyboard‑Only option, ensuring every action can be performed without a mouse. This covers navigation, combat commands and character swapping.

Partial controller support is also listed, allowing many functions to be accessed via a gamepad. Both input methods are available, giving players flexibility in how they play.

  • Try both input schemes to see which feels more natural for grid navigation.
  • If you prefer a controller, test its responsiveness during character swaps.

05 / THE GUIDE

Steam Integration Features

The game integrates with Steam for achievements, cloud saves and family sharing. Achievements record milestones, while cloud saves keep progress synchronized across installations.

Family sharing lets multiple Steam accounts access the same purchase, extending playability within households without requiring additional copies.

  • Review the achievement list early to set personal goals.
  • Enable cloud sync to protect progress when switching computers.
