Campaign Structure
The core experience is a 12-stage campaign centered on defending the Kingdom from the forces of Vez'nan. Additional content comprises the two-stage Winter Storm mini-campaign, the two-stage Rise of the Bandits mini-campaign, the four-stage Curse of Castle Blackburn campaign, and four bonus stages: The Ruins of Acaroth, The Rotten Forest, The Lair of Sarelgaz and The Fungal Forest.
Stages take place across forest, mountain and wasteland settings, and the game features intense boss fights as part of its defense battles. All of this content is part of the base game and requires no additional purchases.
- Begin with the core campaign to learn the fundamentals of tower placement before moving on to side content.
- Try the extra game modes once you are comfortable with the basics, since they are designed to push your tactical skills further.

Towers & Upgrades
Towers can be customized with eight specialized upgrades, letting you adapt your defensive strategy to each battlefield. On top of that, there are 18 tower abilities, with examples including Sorcerers summoning earth elementals and polymorphing enemies.
Because enemies are so varied, mixing tower types and specializations is a sound approach. The in-game encyclopedia documents your towers and enemies, so you can consult it when deciding which upgrades suit a given stage.
- Use the in-game encyclopedia to review what each tower upgrade and ability does before committing to a build.
- Experiment with different specializations between stages to find combinations that cover each other's weaknesses.

Heroes & Units
Thirteen legendary heroes are all unlocked with no additional cost and can be brought into battle against the hordes of evil. Named examples include Mighty Barbarians, Arcane Wizards and Forest Rangers.
Beyond heroes, you command soldiers who engage in hand-to-hand cartoon battles, and you can recruit elven warriors. This active layer of troops and heroes complements your static towers and adds a direct element of command to each defense.
- Rotate through the available heroes across stages to learn which ones fit your preferred defensive style.
- Position troops where they can delay enemies long enough for your towers to deal damage.

Enemies & Bosses
More than 61 different enemies appear, from Goblins to Demons, each with its own skills. The store description specifically warns players to beware of the mountain Trolls.
The game also features intense boss fights, described as never before seen in a defense game. The breadth of enemy skills means you should keep adjusting tower placement and upgrade choices rather than relying on a single setup.
- Pay attention to what each enemy type can do, using the encyclopedia to prepare for new threats.
- Save your most powerful spells and abilities for the moments when they matter most, such as heavy waves and boss encounters.
