About Keep Driving

Set in an early‑2000s summer, you buy your first car and head for a festival on the other side of the country, traveling road by road through a pixel‑art world.

The game blends management‑RPG elements with a turn‑based system for roadside challenges, lets you pick up hitchhikers, upgrade and repair your car, and collect songs from Swedish indie bands, with multiple endings that each run about one to four hours.

01 / THE GUIDE

Procedurally Generated World

The open world is built through procedural generation, creating a fresh map of highways, dirt tracks, and country roads each playthrough.

Exploration proceeds one road at a time, so the placement of towns, obstacles and scenery varies between runs.

  • Start a new game without consulting previous maps to experience the full range of generated routes.
  • Sketch each road segment you travel; compare sketches across runs to see how the world reshapes itself.

02 / THE GUIDE

Turn‑Based Road Encounters

When you meet a road obstacle, such as being stuck behind a tractor, the game switches to a unique turn‑based ‘combat’ system.

You choose actions using items from your glovebox to resolve the situation and continue your journey.

  • Keep a variety of glovebox items available; different obstacles may require different tools.
  • Observe which actions succeed early on to guide later decisions.

03 / THE GUIDE

Car Upgrade, Customisation & Repair

Throughout the trip you can upgrade, customise, and repair your car, affecting how it handles the various road types.

Neglecting repairs can lead to breakdowns that force additional turn‑based encounters.

  • Allocate resources to repairs after long travel segments to avoid unexpected breakdowns.
  • Experiment with different upgrades to see how they change performance on similar roads.

04 / THE GUIDE

Picking Up Hitchhikers

You may pick up hitchhikers—described as misfits, oddballs, or lost souls—each with their own personality and story.

Their dialogue appears as you travel, adding narrative moments without affecting core gameplay mechanics.

  • Listen to each hitchhiker’s dialogue to appreciate their personalities.
  • Take note of the characters you meet; they serve as reference points for the story.

05 / THE GUIDE

Collecting Local Music

The game includes a mix CD of local Swedish indie bands that you can collect while exploring towns and routes.

Collected tracks can be listened to in‑game, reinforcing the early‑2000s analogue atmosphere.

  • Explore towns and routes; some locations may contain a song collectible.
  • Log the source of each track you find to track your musical progress.
