About Just Cause

Just Cause puts you in the role of a Latin field operative backed by a secret US agency, tasked with overthrowing the corrupt government of the fictional South American state San Esperito and stopping a suspected weapons‑of‑mass‑destruction threat.

The game features a procedurally generated 250,000‑acre island of mountains, jungles, beaches, cities and villages that can be traversed by land, sea or air using a large roster of vehicles, while missions can be tackled in any order or ignored for free exploration.

01 / THE GUIDE

Open World Exploration

San Esperito spans over 250,000 acres and is described as the largest environment ever seen in a game, containing mountains, jungles, beaches, cities and villages that can be visited at the player’s own pace.

The Avalanche Engine™ creates this landscape procedurally, removing loading screens and allowing players to break from missions and simply roam the detailed world whenever they choose.

  • Use the in‑game map to locate high‑ground points for better visibility of surrounding terrain.
  • Pause near choke points to plan routes that avoid heavy enemy presence.

02 / THE GUIDE

Vehicle Variety

The title offers more than 100 land, sea and air vehicles, giving players many options for travel, combat and traversal across the island’s varied terrain.

Stunts such as jumping between vehicles, parasailing, sky‑diving and base‑jumping are supported, providing over‑the‑top movement possibilities.

  • Experiment with different vehicle types to see which handle best on each terrain.
  • Request a vehicle drop from the support team when far from any usable transport.

Mission Structure

Missions are divided into story missions, side‑missions and bonus missions, delivering a range of objectives throughout the island.

Players may approach any assignment in any order, or simply ignore missions to explore the world freely.

  • Read the briefing from Sheldon or Kane to understand each mission’s goal.
  • Mark missions that are near your current location to reduce travel distance.

04 / THE GUIDE

Support Team

Two US government agents, Sheldon and Kane, provide reconnaissance information, extraction assistance and vehicle drops during the campaign.

Their support helps maintain mobility and situational awareness as the player moves across the island.

  • Listen for reconnaissance cues to locate hidden enemy positions.
  • Call for a vehicle drop when you need rapid transport to a new area.

05 / THE GUIDE

Technical Features

The Avalanche Engine™ procedurally generates the landscape, delivering a detailed world without loading times.

Additional options include camera comfort, custom volume controls, subtitle options, stereo sound and Steam Cloud support.

  • Adjust camera comfort settings for smoother navigation in tight spaces.
  • Enable Steam Cloud to keep your progress synced across devices.
