About Just Another Night Shift
Just Another Night Shift is a casual competitive multiplayer where two teams—Guard and Thief—face off in 1v1 or 2v2 online matches. The Thief’s goal is to steal a specific item from a mansion, while the Guard must stop the theft and finish extra tasks.
The winner is whoever reaches the set number of round victories first, and players switch sides midway through the match. Matches take place in either a compact modern mansion or an older castle‑style mansion, each offering its own layout and routes.

Game Objective
Each round ends when the Thief successfully takes the designated item, or when the Guard fails to complete the required tasks on time, which hands the round to the Thief. The side that first reaches the set number of round wins claims overall victory.
Mid‑match, the players exchange roles so both experience the Guard’s task‑focused play and the Thief’s stealth‑focused play within a single game.
- Watch the round timer; the Guard’s tasks are time‑sensitive.
- Consider a quick escape route as the Thief if the Guard’s tasks are close to completion.

Roles & Abilities
Both Guard and Thief have distinct strengths, weaknesses, and a special ability. The Guard can deploy a dog or cameras for extra vision, while the Thief relies on agility and a hiding ability to avoid detection.
The Guard can use a flashlight to illuminate shadows, adding another tactical element to the chase.
- Use the Guard’s cameras to monitor likely Thief pathways.
- The Thief’s hiding ability can be useful in areas where the Guard’s light does not reach.

Map Variety
Players may choose between a compact modern mansion and an older castle‑style mansion. Each map provides its own arrangement of rooms, corridors, and hiding spots, influencing both theft routes and guard patrols.
Exploring both maps lets players discover optimal paths for stealing items and effective guard checkpoints, helping them adapt their tactics to each environment.
- Test each map in a casual session to learn where the Thief can hide best.
- Guard players should note camera placement options unique to each mansion.

Item Shops
During a match, both sides may purchase items. The Thief can buy tools from the black market, while the Guard can acquire gear from the security shop. These purchases are intended to aid each side’s core objectives.
Choosing which items to buy can shift the balance of a round, especially when time is limited and each side needs to maximise its effectiveness.
- Guard players might select items that support task completion.
- Thief players might select items that help with stealth or movement.

Network Architecture
The game uses a peer‑to‑peer (P2P) system where Player 1 acts as the server and Player 2 as the client. This design can affect latency, particularly when the two players are far apart.
Higher latency may cause noticeable delays in movement or actions, which can influence competitive play and the timing of tasks or theft attempts.
- Host games with a nearby friend to reduce latency.
- If latency becomes problematic, restarting the match may help re‑establish a smoother connection.
