About Isonzo

Isonzo drops players onto the Italian Front of World War One, recreating key offensives such as the Sixth Battle of the Isonzo and the Strafexpedition. Matches host up to 48 players, demanding tactical teamwork across Alpine terrain where offensive, flanking or supporting actions are all viable.

Players choose from six distinct classes and equip any of more than 50 iconic WW1 weapons, then can shape the battlefield with sandbags, barbed wire, ammo crates, periscopes and flare‑gun calls for artillery or biplane strikes.

01 / THE GUIDE

Classes and Load‑outs

Six distinct classes give each player a role‑specific set of weapons, equipment and perks. After selecting a class, the load‑out is built from a pool of over fifty iconic WW1 weapons, matching firepower to the class’s purpose.

Uniforms, accessories, headgear and even mustache styles can be chosen to personalize the soldier, but these visual choices do not alter the underlying class mechanics.

  • Compare weapon silhouettes across classes to see which fits your preferred engagement distance.
  • Use visual customisation to help identify teammates during chaotic fights.

02 / THE GUIDE

Battlefield Modification

Players can place sandbags, barbed wire and ammo crates on the map, creating new cover or blocking routes. These placements let squads shape defensive lines or funnel attackers.

Additional tools such as trench periscopes and sniper shields add observation and protection options, while poisonous gas and artillery barrages act as environmental hazards to watch for.

  • Position sandbags behind natural cover to reinforce weak spots.
  • Lay barbed wire across narrow passes to force enemies into exposed lanes.

Flare‑Gun System

The flare‑gun lets a player mark a target for an artillery strike or a biplane flyby. Once a flare is fired, the marked spot receives coordinated fire support.

Successful strikes depend on accurate marking and team positioning, encouraging communication before advancing to close‑quarter combat with bayonets or trench clubs.

  • Call a flare on a high‑value enemy position before moving forward.
  • Coordinate the timing of the flare with teammates to maximise the follow‑up assault.

Environment and Maps

Maps cover hillside fortresses, mountain trenches, city streets and vineyards, all inspired by real Italian Front battles. Terrain dictates cover choices and movement routes, rewarding players who learn the layout.

Sound effects, weapons, uniforms and even building details were recreated from research and field trips, providing a historically grounded visual and auditory setting.

  • Identify high‑ground early to gain sight advantages.
  • Use vineyard rows as natural concealment when approaching enemy lines.

Platform Features

Isonzo runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and supports Steam Cloud for saved data. Adjustable text size, camera comfort and custom volume controls let players tailor UI and audio to their preferences.

Input options include a Keyboard Only Option and partial controller support for DualShock and DualSense devices. Audio can be switched between stereo and surround sound, and the game offers Steam achievements and trading cards.

  • Increase text size if on‑screen information becomes hard to read during intense fights.
  • Test the keyboard‑only mode if you prefer precise aiming without a controller.
