About Iron Lung
Iron Lung is a short, dread-driven submarine horror game from the developer behind DUSK, The Moon Sliver, and Squirrel Stapler. You pilot a cramped one-person vessel through an ocean of blood, navigating almost entirely blind with an incomplete satellite map, proximity sensors, and a primitive external camera.
The experience is built to be finished in under an hour. Your mission is to photograph key locations in a deep trench while hoping whatever lives in the depths doesn't find you, all before the aging sub falls apart.

Gameplay Mechanics
Everything takes place inside a claustrophobic submarine with a single porthole that must remain shut due to depth pressure. Navigation is effectively blind, relying on an incomplete satellite map, proximity sensor feedback, and sound to avoid hazards.
A grainy external still camera serves two purposes: capturing the photographs your mission requires at marked locations, and offering a low-resolution glimpse of whatever may be outside the hull. Success rewards resourcefulness and patience rather than fast reactions.
- Pay attention to sensor feedback to judge how close you are to obstacles.
- Reserve the camera for when you actually need a visual or must take a required photograph.

Story Context
The setting follows a cosmic catastrophe in which every known star and habitable planet vanished, stranding humanity on space stations and starships amid dwindling supplies and decaying infrastructure.
A Blood Ocean has been discovered on a barren moon, and scans reveal potentially useful anomalous sites in a deep trench. You are sent down in a rusty sub assembled from old space station parts to photograph what is there before the vessel fails or something below notices you.
- This is an investigation mission, not a combat scenario.
- Prioritize reaching each marked location before the deteriorating sub gives out.

Audio-Visual Design
Visibility is deliberately restricted: the outside world appears only through grainy, low-resolution camera snapshots, which reinforces paranoia and claustrophobia.
The original soundtrack draws on the style of Aubrey Hodges' Doom 64 score, and stereo sound supports the dread-focused atmosphere alongside sensor cues.
- Set your volume so quiet sensor signals stay audible.
- Limit camera use to keep the tension of limited sight intact.

Platform Features
This Steam listing covers Windows and includes Steam achievements, trading cards, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing. The store page also notes partial controller support, camera comfort, playable-without-timed-input, and stereo sound.
These accessibility-oriented options make the game approachable for players sensitive to timed inputs or certain visual effects.
- Consider the camera comfort option if the grainy visuals are uncomfortable.
- Check the store page for the full list of supported Steam features.

Duration and Replay
Iron Lung is intentionally brief, with the developer describing it as a short experience meant to be completed in under an hour. The mission structure guides you through one investigative descent.
Because the run is so compact, some players revisit it to try different navigation decisions and compare how sensor and camera feedback plays out across attempts.
- On later runs, vary your route and note how the sensor cues change.
- A single sitting is usually enough to see the mission through.
