About Infection Free Zone
Infection Free Zone drops you into a world where a fast-spreading virus has emptied cities and collapsed society. You type a city or town name, download its OpenStreetMap-based layout, and begin rebuilding a safe haven for survivors.
The game mixes action, strategy and simulation: you construct shelters, farms and power houses, set up walls, gates and towers, fend off nightly hordes, and may research a vaccine or simply enjoy restoring the city.
01 / THE GUIDE
World Map Selection
Players enter the name of any city or town, then the game downloads a map generated from OpenStreetMap data. The map includes real-world streets, building footprints and landmarks, giving a familiar layout to explore and settle.
Because the map reflects actual locations, you can use knowledge of where grocery stores, pharmacies or potential weapon caches were situated to plan resource gathering and defensive positions.
- Choose a location with many existing structures to increase building options.
- Identify former commercial areas for quicker access to supplies.

Settlement Building
After the map loads you can establish an “Infection Free Zone” by adapting existing buildings into shelters and production facilities. New farms and power houses can also be constructed to sustain the community.
Defensive structures such as walls, gates and towers are available for fortifying the perimeter, letting you decide where to place them based on the city’s layout and your strategic priorities.
- Convert large warehouses into production sites for higher output.
- Place towers at key entry points to extend defensive reach.

Defense Mechanics
Each night the settlement may be attacked by large hordes of infected. You can fight them off using melee and ranged weapons, vehicles, walls and light, giving multiple ways to repel the assault.
Walls and gates slow the incoming hordes, while vehicles and ranged weapons allow you to engage from a distance, and light is one of the tools available during night raids.
- Balance melee and ranged units to cover both close and distant threats.
- Treat light as one of the tools available when fighting off a night horde.

Survivor Interactions
Other survivor groups appear in the world. Some are friendly and willing to trade, while others are extremely hostile and may engage in combat, adding a diplomatic layer to the gameplay.
These encounters require you to decide whether to cooperate, trade resources, or defend against aggression, influencing your settlement’s resource flow and security.
- Scout hostile groups from a distance before committing to combat.
- Trade surplus goods with friendly groups to boost resource stockpiles.

Research and Victory
Beyond survival, you can research a vaccine or cure, presented as an ultimate victory condition.
Alternatively, the game allows you to simply enjoy rebuilding entire cities without pursuing the cure, offering multiple ways to experience the title.
- If aiming for the cure, keep research moving alongside your other settlement goals.
- Balance resource allocation between defense and research to avoid being overrun.
