About Ikenfell

Ikenfell is a turn‑based tactical RPG set in a sprawling magic academy. Players command three students at a time from a roster of six, using timing‑based spellcasting instead of a traditional MP system. The combat system rewards precise button presses to power attacks, block, or heal.

Beyond battles, the game offers over a hundred enemies, twenty‑two bosses, and hundreds of hidden items across dozens of school locations such as dorms, alchemy labs, and an astronomy tower. A soundtrack by the composers of Steven Universe Cats underscores the story of friendship, trust, love, and loss.

01 / THE GUIDE

Timing‑Based Spellcasting

Spells are activated by pressing a button at a specific moment, with each of the 48 spells having its own timing window. Successful timing can increase damage, knock enemies back, apply poison, or boost allies, while mistimed inputs reduce effectiveness.

The same timing mechanic also allows players to block incoming attacks, linking offense and defense. Mastery of these windows is essential for progressing through tougher encounters and bosses.

  • Practice a single spell in low‑risk fights to learn its rhythm.
  • Watch enemy attack cues; matching your timing can create natural blocks.

02 / THE GUIDE

Three‑Member Battle Rotation

During each encounter, three students fight simultaneously, chosen from a pool of six characters. Each student brings unique powers and strengths, shaping the spells available in that turn.

Changing which trio is active alters the spell list and tactical options, encouraging experimentation to counter specific enemy patterns or boss mechanics.

  • Swap in a crowd‑control specialist when facing groups.
  • Pair a healer with a high‑damage caster for balanced survivability.

03 / THE GUIDE

Exploring the Magic School

The game world consists of a vast academy that includes dorms, alchemy labs, an astronomy tower, a twilight yard, and many other mysterious sites. Each area contains hidden treasure and items that aid combat.

Hundreds of items—wands, hats, cloaks, rings, and magical artifacts—are scattered throughout, rewarding thorough investigation and providing new strategic options.

  • Revisit rooms after learning new spells; new paths may open.
  • Use the map to note unexplored sections for later searches.

04 / THE GUIDE

Enemy and Boss Variety

Players face over 100 enemies, ranging from spirits and mythic beasts to fellow students and teachers. Each foe has distinct attack patterns that require timing awareness.

Twenty‑two bosses push timing and strategy to the limit, demanding precise spell execution and thoughtful team composition to survive.

  • Observe boss telegraphs closely; timing spells to cues can reduce damage.
  • Balance offensive and defensive spells when enemies have unpredictable rhythms.

Audio‑Visual Design

The soundtrack, created by the composers behind Steven Universe Cats, enhances the magical atmosphere of each location and encounter, reinforcing the game's emotional themes.

Visuals portray a whimsical yet eerie academy, with distinct art for characters and areas that support the narrative of friendship, trust, love, and loss.

  • Raise music volume during exploration to heighten immersion.
  • Watch enemy animations; visual cues often hint at timing windows.
