About Hungry Horrors
Hungry Horrors puts you in the shoes of a reluctant princess who must break a curse by feeding legendary British and Irish monsters. The game blends pixel‑art card play with cooking, letting you craft recipes and match five taste flavours to satisfy each creature’s appetite.
You travel across dark woods, bogs and lochs, collecting ingredients, fishing, rescuing familiars and equipping cookware. A persistent deck lets you carry unlocked recipes and seasonings between runs, while optional modes like Spicy add extra modifiers for a deeper challenge.
01 / THE GUIDE
Culinary Deck Building
You create a deck from authentic British and Irish dishes such as Cranachan, Yorkshire Pudding, Jellied Eels and Toad in the Hole. Ingredients gathered on the road let you cook new cards, and seasoning those cards changes their flavour and unlocks abilities.
Equipping cookware further modifies how cards behave in encounters, letting you shape the deck around desired flavour chains. This system encourages strategic planning of recipes and upgrades before each run.
- Experiment with seasoning to discover hidden abilities on familiar dishes.
- Balance your deck with a mix of flavours to handle varied monster cravings.

Mythical Horrors
The game features creatures drawn from English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh folklore, including Jenny Greenteeth, Marool, Dullahan and Y Fad Felen. Each Horror has specific appetites, favourite flavours and dislikes that you must learn.
Feeding a Horror correctly satisfies it, while a wrong dish can turn the princess into the next course. Understanding each monster’s lore helps predict their preferences and plan your deck accordingly.
- Read the in‑game lore entries to anticipate a monster’s favourite taste.
- Keep a backup card of a contrasting flavour for emergencies.

Flavour Mechanics
Every dish carries one of five flavours: salty, sour, savoury, bitter or sweet. Matching a Horror’s craving with the correct flavour starts a chain that can snowball hunger satisfaction.
Each Horror also has dislikes; serving a disliked flavour can worsen the encounter. Mastering the order and combination of flavours is key to progressing through tougher areas.
- Plan a sequence that alternates favourite and neutral flavours to maintain momentum.
- Track which flavours a Horror despises to avoid accidental penalties.
