About Homicipher
Homicipher follows a protagonist trying to leave an unfamiliar world populated by monsters whose speech they cannot initially understand. This point-and-click adventure makes observation part of learning that language: facial reactions, body movements and indicated objects provide clues during conversations and item investigations. Individual words carry broad meanings, with few grammatical particles to connect them, so interpreting a sentence involves working out its general intent.
Decisions can alter a scene, redirect the story or kill the protagonist immediately. A failed attempt does not impose a penalty: play can resume shortly before the mistake. Chapter navigation also lets you revisit scenes already encountered. The store separately describes 20 kinds of mid-story conclusions and 17 endings across character routes and later story developments, including Chapter 5. Its estimate for exploring all routes is roughly five hours.
01 / THE GUIDE
Deciphering the World’s Language
Rather than relying on familiar grammar, the language places considerable weight on each word. A speaker's expression, movements and references to nearby objects help explain what a short sequence means. Pay attention to these details alongside the dialogue instead of treating an isolated word as a complete explanation.
Examining objects and talking to characters are the documented ways to advance your understanding. Once your dictionary contains more vocabulary, returning to an earlier conversation can make its intent clearer. Repeated visits are part of how the adventure supports interpretation.
- Note which gestures and pointed-to objects accompany new words; visual cues recur across scenes.
- Re-watch conversations after adding words to the dictionary to catch context you missed the first time.

Branching Paths and Instant Death
The actions offered during a scene can produce anything from a small variation to a different narrative path or sudden death. After a game over, you may return to a point immediately preceding it and try another decision, with no penalty attached to the failure.
The store explicitly rules out an affection-management system. Instead, acquiring flags makes additional decisions available. Keep an eye on those newly offered actions when revisiting a scene, since you may now have alternatives that were absent earlier.
- Treat deaths as information rather than setbacks; retrying costs nothing, so test different actions freely.
- Watch which choices unlock after acquiring flags, since new options can change a scene’s direction.

Endings and Replayability
The store distinguishes between mid-story outcomes, including bad conclusions and unresolved situations, and the endings associated with routes and later progress. It gives counts of 20 and 17 respectively. It also warns of an apparently happy conclusion partway through the story that is not the genuine finish.
Use chapter navigation to return to familiar scenes when exploring another possibility. Revisiting dialogue with a better-developed dictionary serves a different purpose as well: it can reveal meaning you did not understand on the first visit.
- Track which conclusions you have seen so unexplored routes stand out on your next run.
- Stay alert to the fake happy ending midway so it is not mistaken for a true conclusion.

Audio Considerations
The developer recommends keeping audio enabled because some effects use sound. Treat that recommendation as part of preparing for a session, particularly when returning to an encounter that seemed difficult to interpret.
The description also welcomes playful experimentation with what characters say. That gives you room to enjoy unusual interpretations as you learn, while retaining the audio needed to experience the sound-based effects.
- Play with sound enabled so the sound-based effects are not missed.
- If a scene seems unclear, replay it with audio on before assuming you misread the language.
