About Hokkaido Game

Hokkaido Game is a physics‑based falling‑block puzzle where you, as a "big person," drop Japanese prefecture blocks into a confined box. Matching identical prefectures causes them to evolve into larger ones, and the objective is to create the biggest prefecture, Hokkaido, before the box fills.

Version 2.0 adds Survivor Mode, a rogue‑lite variant that lets you choose a prefecture whose special effect alters the field, bounce, spin, or even summons UFOs. Evolutions made in this mode contribute to a growing map of the Japanese islands.

01 / THE GUIDE

Core Gameplay

In the main mode you release prefecture blocks from a "big person" into a box. The blocks fall under physics simulation and stack as they land, creating a limited space to manage.

When two blocks of the same prefecture touch, they merge into a larger prefecture block. The process repeats, allowing progressively bigger pieces to appear as you continue to drop blocks.

  • Watch the landing positions of blocks before adding another one.
  • Try to keep space for future merges by spacing out early drops.

02 / THE GUIDE

Evolution Mechanic

Identical prefecture blocks fuse on contact, producing a single, larger prefecture block. This evolution can happen multiple times, building a hierarchy of increasingly big prefectures.

The game is completed when you create the largest prefecture, Hokkaido, before the box overflows. Reaching Hokkaido ends the session successfully.

  • Prioritize merging smaller blocks to free space for larger ones.
  • Observe which merges free the most room for subsequent drops.

Survivor Mode

Survivor Mode combines the base puzzle with rogue‑lite elements. At the start of each run you select a prefecture whose effect changes the playfield, such as narrowing the field or altering bounce strength.

Other selectable effects include making blocks spin while falling or causing UFOs to appear. Each evolution you achieve in this mode adds to the overall map of Japanese islands.

  • Experiment with different prefecture effects to see how they influence block placement.
  • Use narrower fields if you prefer tighter control over where blocks land.
