About Guacamelee! Gold Edition
Guacamelee! Gold Edition is a Metroidvania‑style action‑platformer that places players in a magical world inspired by Mexican folklore. The luchador hero fights with melee attacks and a dimension‑swap ability that opens new routes and secrets.
The Gold Edition adds the El Infierno level expansion, new costumes for Juan and Tostada, and includes the free Super Turbo Championship Edition, which brings extra powers, levels, enemies, and visual upgrades. It supports single‑player, local two‑player co‑op, and a suite of Steam features.
01 / THE GUIDE
Combat‑Platforming Integration
Combat moves double as platforming tools; for example, the Rooster Uppercut can both damage foes and propel the player upward to reach higher ground. This dual purpose means many moves serve both fighting and traversal.
Because many moves are required for both fighting and platforming challenges, players must consider combat options when mapping routes, reinforcing the Metroidvania loop of gaining abilities that unlock previously unreachable areas.
- Test each attack in a platforming scenario to see which provides the greatest vertical reach.
- Watch enemy patterns; some moves may serve as both offense and a way to bypass hazards.

Dimension Swapping
Players can switch between the World of the Living and the World of the Dead, two overlapping dimensions that share space but differ in layout. Swapping instantly changes platform positions and reveals hidden paths.
Progress often hinges on using the correct dimension at the right moment; certain doors, items, or shortcuts exist only in one layer, making dimension control a core puzzle mechanic.
- Toggle dimensions repeatedly in a single area to map both layouts before committing to a path.
- When a platform disappears, try the opposite dimension to see if it reappears there.

Local Two‑Player Co‑op
The Gold Edition allows a second player to drop in or out at any point during the story, sharing the same screen and controlling a second luchador. Both players experience the full narrative together.
The drop‑in/out co‑op supports the entire story, so both participants can work together through the same campaign content.
- Communicate dimension swaps to avoid separating the characters.
- Assign one player to focus on combat while the other handles platforming for smoother teamwork.

Costume System and Attributes
Players can unlock costumes for Juan and Tostada by completing challenges in the El Infierno expansion. Each costume modifies the hero’s attributes, offering different statistical benefits.
Changing costumes therefore influences gameplay performance, allowing players to select gear that matches the demands of a particular level or combat encounter.
- Swap costumes before a tough boss to compare which attribute set feels more effective.
- Keep a mix of offensive and defensive costumes ready for varied challenges.

Steam Workshop & Extras
The edition integrates Steam Workshop, letting players create custom costumes and share them with the community. These community creations appear alongside the official costumes.
Additional Steam features include achievements, leaderboards, cloud saves, and trading cards, extending the game's replay value beyond the core campaign.
- Explore the Workshop for costumes that suit your preferred attribute focus.
- Enable cloud save to retain progress when switching between multiple computers.
