About Generation Zero

Generation Zero drops players into Östertörn, a Swedish region inspired by the Cold War era. The open world is hostile, with mysterious machines that actively hunt anyone who enters their territory.

Players can fight these machines alone or with up to three online teammates, scavenge parts to craft gear, build fortified bases, and piece together the story behind the mechanical invasion.

01 / THE GUIDE

Open World Exploration

The map spans a huge area modeled after Swedish Cold War settings, placing danger on streets, in forests, and deep inside bunkers. Every location can contain hostile machines, making exploration a constant risk‑vs‑reward decision.

Because the environment is designed to be hostile, players must decide when to move forward and when to retreat, using the landscape to avoid or ambush enemies as they uncover new zones.

  • Move slowly in dense forest patches where machines may be concealed.
  • Mark bunker entrances on the map before approaching them.

02 / THE GUIDE

Guerrilla Combat

Combat is described as tense, adrenaline‑pumping guerrilla warfare against sophisticated machines. Players may engage solo or with up to three online friends, requiring careful planning of each encounter.

The machines are programmed to hunt players, so outsmarting them—by using cover, flanking, or retreating when outmatched—is essential for survival.

  • Coordinate attacks with teammates to overwhelm tougher machines.
  • Pull back when outnumbered to preserve health and ammunition.

03 / THE GUIDE

Crafting and Upgrades

Experience is earned by fighting machines, and parts salvaged from fallen enemies can be used to craft equipment, weapons, and ammunition. This loop lets players grow stronger over time.

Crafted items directly affect how far players can explore and how effectively they can handle future encounters, reinforcing the importance of scavenging after each battle.

  • Collect all salvage from defeated machines before moving on.
  • Prioritize crafting weapons that match your preferred combat style.

04 / THE GUIDE

Base Building

Players can build and fortify bases across the island, creating safe zones for storage and recovery. Bases act as footholds in the otherwise hostile landscape.

Strategically placed bases reduce travel time to resource‑rich areas and provide defensive structures that help players reclaim territory over time.

  • Locate bases near areas with abundant salvage to minimize travel.
  • Upgrade base defenses after encountering stronger machine types.

05 / THE GUIDE

Story and Mystery

The narrative centers on uncovering why Östertörn fell under machine control. Clues are scattered throughout the world, encouraging investigation as players progress.

Collecting documents, audio logs, and environmental details gradually reveals the hidden history of the region and the origin of the mechanical threat.

  • Pick up every document or audio log you encounter for story context.
  • Visit locations referenced in clues to unlock further narrative pieces.
