About From Dust
From Dust, created by Eric Chahi of “Another World” fame, puts you in charge of a primitive tribe on a world that constantly reshapes itself. The game blends adventure storytelling with a real‑time nature simulation that reacts to every player action.
Explore thirteen distinct territories—from tropical islands to volcanic wastelands—while mastering elemental powers to protect your people from tsunamis, wildfires, earthquakes and more. All content is single‑player and built by Ubisoft Montpellier.

Ground‑Breaking Real‑Time Nature Simulation
The core of From Dust is a sandbox where water, lava, fire and earth evolve continuously. Every element you manipulate keeps affecting the world after you release it, so the environment never stays static and each playthrough feels fresh.
Because the simulation runs in real time, natural forces can interact in unexpected ways. Blocking a river may cause a lake to rise elsewhere, while holding back lava can redirect a later flood, creating emergent challenges that require observation.
- Watch how water reroutes after you place a barrier; small changes often produce large downstream effects.
- Watch how the terrain changes after you stop a lava flow.

Unique Art Direction and Varied Environments
From Dust presents a wide visual palette, ranging from lush tropical islands to barren deserts and volatile volcanic landscapes. Each of the thirteen territories is crafted to highlight the tribe’s relationship with its surroundings.
The distinct aesthetics also hint at how natural forces behave. Different environments may call for different elemental strategies, so observing each landscape can guide your decisions.
- Observe terrain textures; they often indicate where water will pool or flow.
- Watch lava's movement closely to anticipate where it will spread next.

Rich Story Mode Across 13 Territories
Story Mode guides you through thirteen breathtaking territories where you help the tribe recover lost ancestral powers. The narrative unfolds as you master elemental forces and protect the people from natural disasters.
Progression is tied to completing objectives in each area, blending storytelling with the sandbox mechanics. The unfolding narrative provides context for the challenges you face.
- Focus on one elemental power per territory to understand its impact before combining them.
- Pay attention to the story as it unfolds; it can help you anticipate what comes next in each territory.

Challenge Mode Puzzle Maps
Beyond the story, Challenge Mode offers 30 additional maps that act as timed puzzles. Each scenario requires quick manipulation of nature to achieve objectives before the clock runs out.
Scores from these challenges are recorded on online leaderboards, letting players compare their efficiency with the global community.
- Prioritize actions that have the biggest immediate impact to save time.
- Replay a map to discover alternative routes for faster completion.

Master Godlike Powers Over Elements
Players wield control over lava, water, earth and fire, enabling them to sculpt the landscape. You can hold back lava flows, stop raging waters, empty lakes, grow forests and raise mountains to aid your tribe.
These powers are the primary means of defending against Nature’s attacks and shaping the world to suit survival needs, turning each disaster into a problem you can solve.
- Use the “hold back lava” ability early to prevent downstream destruction.
- Growing forests reshapes the landscape and may open new options for protecting your tribe.
