01 / THE GUIDE
Flipping Between Worlds
The core mechanic lets players move swiftly between the living realm and the dead realm, revealing distinct platform layouts and puzzle elements in each. Successful navigation requires timing flips to line up platforms that exist only in one world.
Visual contrast between the two realms highlights which objects belong to each realm. Players must observe both versions of a level before flipping to avoid hazards that appear solely in one reality.
- Survey both realms before flipping to plan your route.
- Use the visual contrast to spot clues that appear only in one world.

Possessing the Living
Penny can take control of living characters, manipulating their limbs to interact with the environment. While possessing, she also reads the characters' thoughts, which provide hints for solving puzzles.
Through possession, players can move objects, activate switches, or perform actions that would be impossible as Death alone. This blends platforming with light puzzle‑solving by using another character’s body.
- Listen to the possessed character’s thoughts for hidden hints.
- Try different characters to discover unique interactions.

Comedy Adventure Narrative
The storyline follows Penny’s quest to uncover how she died while serving as a temporary Death. Ryan North’s writing balances humor with mystery, keeping the tone light despite the afterlife setting.
Narrative pieces are delivered through interactions with spirits and the living, each adding clues to the overall mystery. The comedic dialogue often doubles as puzzle hints, integrating story and gameplay.
- Pay attention to dialogue for narrative clues.
- Enjoy the humor; it frequently hints at puzzle solutions.

The stylized backgrounds help puzzle clarity, as interactive objects and platforms stand out against the artwork. The visual direction contributes to the game’s indie charm and comedic atmosphere.
