01 / THE GUIDE
Authority and Disorder
The new Authority concept lets you govern your royal domain, keeping population and vassals under control. Edicts can be issued to construct buildings and to declare wars, directly influencing the stability of your realm.
The game pairs Authority with the concept of Disorder, and keeping your population and vassals under control is central to governing your realm. Maintaining a balance between authority and the needs of each social class is essential for a productive kingdom.
- Keep an eye on your authority as you govern your royal domain.
- Issue edicts to construct buildings before launching wars.

Dynasties and Characters
As a ruler you may sire an heir with your spouse or with any other person of your choice, preparing a line of succession for your dynasty. An heir does not guarantee a peaceful transition, adding risk to succession planning.
Choosing partners is part of preparing your succession, making dynastic planning a strategic layer for your dynasty.
- Plan your succession early, since having an heir is no guarantee of a peaceful transition.
- Weigh political alliances when selecting a partner for your heir.

Religion and Tensions
Neighbouring realms of different religions create tension that can lead to war, even for tolerant rulers. When religious imbalance becomes strong, diplomacy recedes and conflict becomes likely.
Losing holy cities can trigger larger movements such as Crusades or Jihads, adding a religious dimension to territorial control and strategic decision‑making.
- Watch neighbouring realms of different religions, as tensions with them can lead to war.
- Protect holy cities to avoid triggering large‑scale religious wars.

Regions and Population
Populations range from peasants to powerful nobles. Administering each class is essential; the social ladder is difficult to climb, and keeping classes under control is paramount to success.
Administering your population across your regions is a core part of managing the kingdom. Effective management of these factors strengthens the kingdom’s overall stability.
- Focus on keeping the lower social classes under control before turning attention to the nobles.
- Track regional populations to manage each social class effectively.

Warfare and Units
Build an army of expert combatants to protect your borders. Available unit types include knights, sergeants, spearmen, crossbowmen and many more, each serving specific tactical roles.
Battles can be exported to Field of Glory II: Medieval for direct control, and the results can be re‑imported, allowing deeper tactical involvement while keeping the grand‑strategy layer intact.
- Mix unit types to cover both melee and ranged needs.
- Use the Field of Glory II export feature for critical engagements.
