About Everything is Crab: The Animal Evolution Roguelite
Everything is Crab: The Animal Evolution Roguelite is a single-player action roguelite set in a living ecosystem. Each run, you make animal-inspired evolutionary choices that shape your creature both mechanically and visually, building a unique chimera while trying to outwit convergent evolution.
The game offers more than 125 evolution-based abilities, four distinct biomes, a day and night cycle, a variety of bosses that may or may not appear each run, and a large meta-progression layer tracked in the Codex. Adjustable difficulty, challenge scenarios, and combinable starting genetics add further replay depth.
01 / THE GUIDE
Evolution System
Each run starts from a genetic base, and different genetics can be combined to create endless starting character combinations. As you play, you acquire evolutions such as legs, claws, pincers, wings, fur, tails, scales, or tentacles, each changing how your creature plays and looks.
With over 125 evolution-based abilities in the game, you can pursue builds built around trickery, ferocious predation, gregarious leadership, nimble nomadism, or other survival strategies. These strategy-defining evolutions determine how you cope with the ecosystem and its dangers.
- Try pairing a mobility trait with a defensive one early on to see how the two complement each other.
- Note which evolutions become available first in a run so you can sketch out a later build path.

Biome Variety
The world contains four distinct biomes, each with its own rules, climate events, points of interest, flora, and fauna. Local conditions influence which evolutions serve you best against each biome's threats.
A night and day cycle runs across the world, adding a temporal layer to planning as conditions shift between light and dark.
- Scout a biome's flora and fauna before committing to a specialization.
- Pay attention to how your current evolutions hold up as day turns to night.

Boss Encounters
A variety of bosses exists in the game, and they may or may not show up in any given run. When they do appear, they test the limits of your evolutionary choices and can force adaptation on the fly.
Your findings, meta-progression, and achievements are recorded in the Codex, giving you a record of what you have encountered and accomplished across runs.
- Keep some flexible evolutions in your build for unexpected boss appearances.
- Treat each boss sighting as Codex material: log what worked and what did not.

Meta-Progression
A huge meta-progression layer persists between runs, with the Codex tracking your findings, progression, and achievements. Proving your survival skills unlocks Endless runs, which ditch the timer and let you try to outlast the apocalypse.
An adjustable difficulty system, for those who dare, and Challenge Scenarios push your adaptation skills to the limit, offering goals beyond a standard run.
- Review the Codex after each run to see which evolutions served you well.
- Raise the difficulty gradually once a build feels comfortable.

Controller Support
The Steam listing lists full controller support, including DualShock and DualSense controller support. The listing also notes custom volume controls and that the game is playable without timed input, both of which broaden accessibility.
Steam Cloud and Family Sharing are listed among the game's Steam features, alongside Steam Achievements and Steam Trading Cards.
- Use the custom volume controls to keep audio at a comfortable level during tense moments.
- If timed inputs are a barrier, the listing notes the game is playable without them.
