About Empire of Sin
Empire of Sin drops you into 1920s Prohibition‑era Chicago, where you command one of fourteen historically inspired mob bosses. You build a gang, run speakeasies, casinos and supply chains, and fight rival families to dominate the underworld.
Developed by Romero Games and published by Paradox Interactive, the game blends role‑play choices, empire‑building strategy and turn‑based combat. It is a single‑player title for Windows and macOS, includes partial controller support, Steam achievements and family‑sharing.
01 / THE GUIDE
Roleplay – Choose Your Boss
At the start you select one of fourteen unique bosses, each based on a real or fictional gangster such as Al Capone, Stephanie St. Clair or Goldie Garneau. This selection shapes the narrative voice of your playthrough as you assemble a rag-tag gang.
The chosen boss also frames early story events and dialogue options, giving each playthrough a distinct flavor while keeping the core gameplay of empire building and combat consistent across all selections.
- Pick a boss whose background matches the type of decisions you enjoy, whether diplomatic or aggressive.
- Try different bosses in separate runs to compare how narrative tone influences strategic choices.

Empire Management
The heart of the game is constructing and overseeing establishments like speakeasies, supply chains and casinos. Each venue contributes income, notoriety or defensive strength, shaping Chicago’s underworld economy around your decisions.
You may grow your empire through business acumen, outright brutality, or city‑wide fame. The chosen approach influences how rival gangs react and which opportunities become available.
- Balance profit‑generating venues with locations that improve territorial security.
- Monitor each establishment’s performance to decide where upgrades or expansions are most worthwhile.

Turn‑Based Combat
When conflicts arise you assemble your gang and enter turn‑based battles. These encounters resolve territorial disputes and can be used to send a clear message to rival families.
Combat outcomes depend on the composition of your crew and the tactical choices you make each turn, encouraging careful planning before each engagement.
- Build a gang with varied skills to handle different enemy types.
- Consider positioning and turn order to maximize the impact of each action.

Single‑Player Experience
Empire of Sin is designed for solo play, allowing you to progress through the story, manage your empire and conduct combat without multiplayer constraints.
All three pillars—roleplay, empire management and turn‑based combat—are fully accessible within the single‑player framework, giving you complete control over pacing and decision‑making.
- Use the pause‑and‑plan nature of single‑player to test different strategies.
- Save regularly to explore alternative outcomes without losing progress.
05 / THE GUIDE
Partial Controller Support
The title includes partial controller support, meaning certain actions can be performed with a gamepad alongside traditional mouse and keyboard inputs. This offers flexibility for players who prefer a controller for some tasks.
Because support is partial, you may find that some menus or management functions still rely on mouse or keyboard, so experimenting with both input methods can reveal which feels most comfortable for your playstyle.
- Try both mouse/keyboard and controller to see which suits management tasks best.
- Switch input methods when a particular action feels cumbersome with one device.
