About Emberward
Emberward challenges players to design a maze using block cards before each battle, shaping how monsters travel across the field. Creative placement of walls and towers determines the flow of combat and the effectiveness of each defense.
The game offers several modes, including a story‑driven Adventure, an endless leaderboard‑focused challenge, and a rapid‑play Enigma Sanctum. Progress is tracked through experience, new towers, and relics, while full controller support and Steam integration round out the experience.
01 / THE GUIDE
Maze Building & Block Cards
Before combat starts, you construct a maze using the block cards in your hand, deciding where walls will force monsters to take longer routes. Limited wall blocks require careful planning to balance path length and tower placement. After the battle you can attach runes to block cards; runes may boost towers, give blocks special abilities, or even double a block’s size, adding another layer of strategy for future fights.
- Experiment with different wall layouts to discover routes that maximize tower coverage.
- Reserve some block cards for rune upgrades to enhance later battles.

Tower Types and Sizes
Towers come in multiple footprints such as 1×3, 2×2, or 3×3, allowing varied placement within the maze. Specific towers include Poison Towers that pour toxin over enemies, Drone Towers that actively track foes, and D20 Towers whose damage scales with a rolled number. Each tower’s size and special ability interact with the maze layout, so matching tower footprints to corridor widths can greatly improve defensive efficiency.
- Fit larger towers into wider corridors to avoid blocking monster paths.
- Combine poison and tracking towers for layered damage over time.

Game Modes
Adventure Mode strings together a series of stages culminating in boss encounters, offering a narrative progression. Endless Mode provides over 80 special event maps where players compete for leaderboard positions. Enigma Sanctum is a fast‑paced mode that limits the card pool, demanding quick, optimal maze construction. Each mode uses the same core building mechanics but varies objectives, encouraging players to adapt strategies across different challenges.
- Focus on versatile tower combos for Endless Mode’s varied maps.
- In Enigma Sanctum, prioritize cards that give the most impact per slot.
