About Dverghold
Dverghold returns to the classic first‑person, grid‑based dungeon crawl, letting you lead a party of up to four into the haunted depths of Rekestt. Exploration is level‑by‑level, with hand‑crafted rooms, traps and secrets that reward careful observation.
Between expeditions you return to a basecamp near Gravhollow, where you can recruit mercenaries, upgrade facilities and converse with a cast of characters. The game blends tactical turn‑based combat, resource management and a persistent world, all set to an original Dungeon Synth soundtrack.
01 / THE GUIDE
First‑Person Dungeon Delving
Navigate Rekestt’s haunted halls in a classic first‑person view, moving through hand‑crafted dungeons that change between expeditions. Every corner may hide treasure, traps or lethal foes, encouraging cautious progression.
The layout is not randomly generated; designers place rooms and hazards deliberately, but monster patrols and loot can shift, meaning you cannot rely on a single memorised route.
- Take note of recurring trap patterns to anticipate future hazards.
- Compare the visual cues of doors and corridors to infer where hidden loot might be placed.

Tactical Turn‑Based Combat
Combat uses a turn‑based system where party positioning, timing and terrain influence outcomes. Arrange characters in front‑row and back‑row formations, lure enemies into hazards and time spells for maximum effect.
Resources are limited, and enemies can be cunning; sometimes retreating is the wiser choice, emphasizing strategic decision‑making over button‑mashing.
- Experiment with different formations to see how enemy movement interacts with environmental hazards.
- Observe enemy attack patterns before committing powerful spells.

Basecamp Management
Your camp near Inner Gravhollow grows as you progress. Recruit new heroes, upgrade facilities and manage resources that will affect future expeditions.
Each mercenary arrives with random skills and can stay only while exhaustion, disease and dungeon conditions allow, so you must adapt your strategy to the roster you have.
- Prioritise facility upgrades that improve resource availability for longer runs.
- Track each recruit’s condition to plan when to rotate them out before exhaustion.

Story and Worldbuilding
The game is set in the Shattered Sea after the age of civilisation fell. King Sterren the Second calls adventurers to reclaim Rekestt, and each character you meet adds a piece to the lore.
Dialogue with mercenaries, the quartermaster and other strangers provides guidance and deepens the atmosphere, while the original Dungeon Synth soundtrack reinforces the oppressive darkness.
- Listen to character dialogue for hints about hidden paths or upcoming threats.
- Compare the musical themes to the visual tone of each area for immersive storytelling.

Early‑Access Progression
Dverghold is released in Early Access, with each major update adding a new Act that expands the reclaimed sections of Rekestt. Player feedback influences the direction of future content.
Act I (Summer 2026) introduces the basecamp and the first expedition; subsequent Acts will add flooded caverns, deeper realms and the final confrontation.
- Provide feedback on level design to help shape later Acts.
- Track which Act you are playing to anticipate new mechanics or environments.
