About Dungeons of Aether
Dungeons of Aether is a turn‑based dungeon crawler from Aether Studios, designed by Nikita “ampersandbear” Belorusov. It trades the twitch‑focused competition of Rivals of Aether for a slower, strategic pace while keeping a high level of challenge.
Set in the steampunk town of Julesvale, the game offers a roguelite Story Mode and harder Challenge Dungeons, each populated by unique biomes, dice‑draft combat, and a roster of four new heroes with distinct personalities.
01 / THE GUIDE
Four New Heroes
Fleet is introduced as a self‑proclaimed protector of Julesvale, described as clumsy but versatile, making her a solid starter for learning combat. Hamir, a former Wall Runner, is portrayed as strong and sturdy, able to endure blows before striking back.
Slade, a pirate from the Polekai Islands, relies on speed to dodge attacks, while Artemis, a Fire Mora general, can heal herself during battle. Each hero’s personality and skill set are highlighted without detailing specific abilities.
- Try Fleet first if you are new to the dice‑draft system; her jack‑of‑all‑trades description suggests a forgiving learning curve.
- Consider Artemis for longer fights where self‑healing could offset tougher enemies.
02 / THE GUIDE
Dice Draft Combat
Combat uses a dice draft system that makes each battle unique, requiring players to adapt the pool of dice each turn. Fortune can be leveraged to shift odds in the player’s favor.
The system challenges players to manage randomness while planning moves, emphasizing strategic adaptation over reflexes.
- Observe the dice pool each turn to anticipate possible outcomes before drafting.
- Balance risk and reward by considering how fortune modifiers might change the odds.

Story Mode Roguelite
Story Mode starts each dive from Julesvale, where players can interact with townsfolk and spend gold on gear before descending. The mode features four main dungeons—Julesvale Mines, Lava Caves, Underground Oasis, and Mineral Deposits.
Collectible Journal Entries reveal lore about Julesvale’s past, and gold earned can be used for preparation between runs.
- Use the town hub to purchase gear that matches the upcoming dungeon’s theme.
- Read Journal Entries for hints that may inform your strategy in later dives.

Challenge Dungeons
Challenge Dungeons are randomly generated with unique events and fights, offering true roguelike difficulty. Players must traverse all biomes in a single run, and a leaderboard tracks gold earned at the end.
These dungeons test skill without the preparatory town interactions found in Story Mode.
- Prioritize gold management; ending with more gold improves your leaderboard ranking.
- Adapt quickly to random events, as there is limited time for preparation.

Platform and Service Features
The game is available on Windows and macOS, supporting single‑player play, full controller support, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, Stats, and Steam Leaderboards. Family Sharing is also listed as a feature.
These features integrate with the Steam ecosystem but do not imply additional gameplay mechanics.
- Enable Steam Cloud to keep progress synced across multiple installations.
- Check the Steam Leaderboards after Challenge Dungeons to compare gold totals with other players.
