About DUNGEON ENCOUNTERS
Dungeon Encounters is a single‑player RPG from Square Enix, created by developers who previously worked on the Final Fantasy series. The game places you in a 99‑floor underground labyrinth where minimalist visuals keep the focus on strategic decisions and real‑time combat.
Exploration is performed on a blank map; each tile you investigate can grant ability points, reveal hidden passages, or trigger events such as items, health restores, ability changes, or merchants. Battles appear on black‑numbered tiles and can be revealed with a special ability, letting you choose when to fight.

Exploration Mechanics
The map begins empty, and every tile you investigate awards ability points, as stated in the description. This encourages thorough investigation of each floor to accumulate the points needed for progression.
White‑numbered spaces on the map trigger events that may provide items, restore health, change abilities, or reveal hidden merchants. By visiting these spaces you gain resources that support deeper dungeon runs.
- Prioritize checking every tile on a floor to maximize ability point gain.
- Visit white‑numbered spaces early to secure health restores before battles.

Combat System
Battles use an Active Time Battle (ATB) system refined under Ito Hiroyuki, the creator of the original ATB mechanic. The system runs in real time, requiring you to time actions as the gauge fills.
Enemy encounters are hidden on black‑numbered tiles and become visible when you use the special ability. This lets you decide the optimal moment to engage, based on party readiness and available resources.
- Watch the ATB gauge closely to issue commands at peak moments.
- Reveal battles only after you have restored health or equipped new items.

Event Log
Every discovered event—items, ability changes, health restores, or merchant locations—is recorded in the Event Log. This log provides a reference for what you have already encountered on previous floors.
Using the Event Log before entering a new floor helps you recall useful abilities or items, reducing the need to rediscover the same information repeatedly.
- Open the Event Log after each floor to note which abilities were changed.
- Check merchant locations in the log before exploring a new area.

Party Management
The streamlined interface lets you prepare your party before each expedition. You can equip rare and powerful items found during exploration, ensuring your characters are ready for upcoming challenges.
Lost adventurers may appear as you explore; they can become new allies, expanding your party options. Health restoration and ability changes accessed via white‑numbered events also contribute to party readiness.
- Equip newly found rare items before tackling higher floors.
- Recruit any lost adventurers you encounter to increase party flexibility.
