About DRAINUS

Drainus is a side‑scrolling shooter where you pilot the titular ship, capable of absorbing enemy bullets with its Reflector. Absorbed energy fuels upgrades and powerful counter‑attacks as you battle the Kharlal Empire’s fleets. The story follows Irina, a slave who steals the Drainus to reach Earth and cure her father’s illness while a time‑travelling soldier, Gehnie, urges her to stop a galaxy‑wide war. The game offers single‑player action, Steam achievements, partial controller support, cloud saves and family sharing on Windows.

01 / THE GUIDE

Reflector Mechanic

The Reflector is the core gameplay element, allowing the Drainus to absorb enemy shots for a limited time. While active, each hit adds to an energy pool.

Collected energy can be spent from tanks to enhance ship functions, such as adding new weapons, and to launch counter‑attacks proportional to the absorbed amount.

  • Activate the Reflector before dense enemy fire to maximize energy gain.
  • Spend stored energy on upgrades that suit your playstyle for more effective counter‑attacks.

02 / THE GUIDE

Story Setup

The planet Halpax suffers under the Kharlal Empire, and Irina’s father is ill with Planetary Compatibility Disorder. Irina’s sister Layla serves the empire, while Gehnie arrives from 50 years ahead.

Gehnie warns of a future war that could destroy over 5,000 planets, urging Irina to help stop the empire as she seeks a cure on Earth.

  • Pay attention to dialogue for hints about upcoming enemy types.
  • Remember the motivation: rescuing Irina’s father drives the narrative forward.

Characters

Irina is the protagonist who steals the Drainus to save her father and confront the empire. Layla, her older sister, is a Kharlal commander who joined as a child.

Gehnie is a frog‑like humanoid from the future, and Izumo is the empire’s Governor‑General, described as wholly evil yet highly skilled.

  • Consider each character’s role when interpreting cutscenes.
  • The contrast between Irina’s determination and Izumo’s cruelty frames the conflict.
