About Dragon Is Dead

Dragon Is Dead is a dark‑fantasy action roguelite where you play an immortal Successor, a warrior granted power by the gods Lu, Ashuran and Harnia. Death ends a run, but you keep all equipped gear, rune stones and skill unlocks, returning to Cliffshire to venture deeper.

Three distinct Successor types—Spellblade, Berserker and Hunter—each provide a unique skill tree and weapon set. Combat focuses on precise dodges, reading telegraphed attacks and chaining aggressive combos while the world’s layout, hazards and loot reshuffle each attempt.

01 / THE GUIDE

Immortal Successor Mechanic

When a Successor falls, the game respawns you at Cliffshire with every piece of gear, rune stone and unlocked ability still equipped, allowing you to build on prior progress rather than start from scratch.

Only gold and temporary bonuses disappear on death, so each new run retains the core power you have accumulated, encouraging gradual strengthening across multiple attempts.

  • Focus on securing gear upgrades before risking large gold piles.
  • Treat each death as a low‑cost opportunity to test new rune combinations.

02 / THE GUIDE

Playable Classes and Skill Trees

The game offers three classes: Spellblade, an element‑focused hybrid; Berserker, a heavy melee bruiser that trades its own health for damage; and Hunter, a mobile ranged fighter using thrown weapons, poison and beast abilities.

Each class unlocks its own skill tree, weapons and playstyle, giving separate development paths that shape how you approach combat as you progress.

  • Begin with Spellblade to learn elemental combos before exploring other classes.
  • Experiment with Hunter’s poison and beast abilities for crowd‑control options.

03 / THE GUIDE

2D Roguelite Hack‑and‑Slash Combat

Combat revolves around precise dodges, reading telegraphed attacks and committing to aggressive combos. Stages are multi‑layered 2D areas that reshuffle enemy placements, hazards and loot each run.

Elites and bosses drop Rune Stones, which can be crafted into Legendary or Mythic equipment, adding a risk‑reward loop to each encounter.

  • Watch enemy telegraphs closely to time dodges effectively.
  • Prioritize eliminating elites first to secure valuable Rune Stones.

04 / THE GUIDE

Loot, Runes and Artifacts

Rune Stones harvested from elites and bosses can be crafted into Legendary and Mythic gear. Runes interact with each class’s skill tree, defining the build you use for the current run.

Artifacts collected mid‑run stack into powerful synergies, letting you modify damage, survivability or utility on the fly.

  • Balance rune upgrades with artifact pickups for consistent power growth.
  • Watch for synergy bonuses when stacking multiple artifacts.

05 / THE GUIDE

Story and the Black Dawn

The fallen dragon Guernian’s Corruption reshapes the world, and you must fight toward the Citadel at the rift’s centre, confronting major bosses that guard fragments of the past.

Collecting those fragments reveals that the history you know is false and explains the true purpose of the Black Dawn’s Corruption.

  • Explore zones thoroughly to locate hidden story fragments.
  • Defeat bosses in order to piece together the narrative.
