About Down with the Ship
Down with the Ship is an auto‑battler where you construct a hull, attach modules, and send the ship into PvP combat. Each round supplies a fresh pool of parts—guns, reactors, shields, cursed relics—and you decide what to buy, lock, and arrange.
The game offers Ranked Versus, Casual Versus, and Endless Run modes, each using the same build‑and‑battle loop but with different win‑loss conditions. Captains provide distinct hull shapes, passives, and preferred build paths, letting you shape strategy around faction tools or mixed‑faction experiments.
01 / THE GUIDE
Ship Building
You begin by connecting hull pieces to expand the ship’s interior space. The build phase presents a rotating selection of parts, and you purchase those that fit your current strategy, locking any you wish to keep.
Choosing between cheap common parts and flashy rare parts is a core decision; sometimes a low‑cost item outperforms a high‑price option. The goal is to create a balanced ship before committing to battle.
- Compare cost versus effect before buying a part.
- Lock essential modules early to avoid later replacement.

Design Positioning
After acquiring parts, you move them around the hull to manage resources and connect item effects. Positioning determines how bonuses stack and which combos become active, letting a single risky combo dominate or a reliable spread emerge.
Experimenting with placement reveals synergies, such as connecting a reactor and a shield to combine their effects. The system rewards thoughtful arrangement over random placement.
- Group modules that share bonuses to maximize stacking.
- Leave empty slots for later upgrades when positioning early parts.

Automatic Battles
When you feel your ship is ready, you trigger a battle that runs without further input. Your build is matched against stored ships from other players, and the outcome is decided by the assembled hardware and its positioning.
Wins let you continue building, while ranked and endless runs track lives that losses consume. Because battles run automatically, preparation in the build phase is the primary way to influence results.
- Observe which builds consistently win to inform future part choices.
- Balance offense and defense to survive longer battles.

Captain Selection
Each captain provides a distinct hull shape, passive ability, and preferred build path. Selecting a captain changes the baseline layout and influences which faction tools feel natural to use.
You can lean fully into a captain’s faction or mix parts from other factions for unpredictable results. The captain choice therefore shapes both aesthetics and strategic options.
- Choose a captain whose hull matches your preferred module layout.
- Mix in foreign‑faction parts to break predictable patterns.

Game Modes
Ranked Versus pits you against player‑made ships with a goal of ten wins before lives run out, feeding a leaderboard. Casual Versus removes ranking pressure while still matching against other builds.
Endless Run lets you keep playing after ten wins, ending only after five lives are lost. All modes share the same building and battle mechanics but differ in win‑loss conditions.
- Use Casual Versus to test experimental builds without risking rank.
- In Endless Run, focus on durability to extend your lifespan.
