About Donutal

In Donutal you awaken in 2206 as the newly appointed Chief Extraterrestrial Counselor, tasked with screening alien visitors at the International Space Port. Each day you review news, interview up to eight applicants, and decide who may enter Earth’s atmosphere. Your judgments shape diplomatic relations and can determine whether humanity survives the looming crises.

01 / THE GUIDE

Group‑Based Screening

You may interview a group of up to eight aliens at once, looking for patterns, inconsistencies, or red flags in their collective statements. The system encourages you to consider the whole cohort rather than isolated individuals.

Analyzing the group helps reveal hidden motives that might be missed when questioning a single applicant. This mechanic forms the core of the decision‑making loop.

  • Compare answers across the group to spot contradictions.
  • Note any applicant who repeats information already given by others.

02 / THE GUIDE

Simultaneous Interview

During a screening you can summon up to two aliens into the interview room at the same time. Their conversation may expose hidden information that would not appear in solo questioning.

The mechanic lets you listen to how applicants react to each other, adding a layer of social deduction to the process.

  • Observe how one alien’s answer changes when the other is present.
  • Listen for subtle disagreements that hint at ulterior motives.

03 / THE GUIDE

Chemistry Matters

Applicants’ answers can shift depending on who stands next to them, reflecting relationships such as lovers, strangers, or rival species. This dynamic influences the information you receive.

Understanding these interpersonal links can help you predict deceptive behavior or genuine concern.

  • Track which pairs seem comfortable versus tense.
  • Use known traits—like Martians’ inability to lie—to gauge honesty.

04 / THE GUIDE

Key Characters

DOLPHIN, an android assistant, provides operational briefings but cannot make final judgments. Martians are brutally honest and cannot lie. Pictor possess advanced technology and are viewed as potential saviors. Octo are intelligent, honest cephalopods locked in a feud with the Takoo.

Other aliens appear with varied motives—tourism, asylum, destruction—adding unpredictable variety to each screening.

  • Use DOLPHIN’s briefings to gather background before interviews.
  • Remember Martians’ honesty may hurt other aliens’ feelings.

05 / THE GUIDE

Decision Impact

Each judgment—grant or deny entry—feeds into Earth’s larger diplomatic narrative. The future of the planet may shift based on the outcomes of your interviews.

Your choices are the primary driver of the story, creating a personalized narrative shaped by your reasoning.

  • Consider long‑term consequences before denying a seemingly helpful alien.
  • Revisit earlier news updates for clues about emerging threats.
